A Electrical Technician is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science in the Wilmington, NC area. This role involves providing hands-on electrical and mechanical support for installation, troubleshooting, and startup of automated production equipment, supervising teams, ensuring safety compliance, and collaborating across engineering disciplines in a manufacturing environment.

responsibilities:
- Perform hands-on installation and support for new or modified production equipment.
- Provide mechanical and electrical discipline support for construction, installation, debugging, troubleshooting, and startup of equipment and automated systems.
- Spend majority of time working directly on the floor with equipment until handover to operations (domestic and international sites).
- Supervise and guide internal maintenance staff and external contractors during demolition, construction, testing, and commissioning of production equipment.
- Assist in developing and following project plans and timelines without compromising safety, IP, or quality.
- Ensure all safety requirements are met, identify risks, and report/investigate incidents.
- Assess condition and fit of existing equipment for new installations.
- Execute initial setup and debug of new equipment before handoff to operations.
- Analyze and optimize equipment installation practices to improve efficiency and timelines.
- Create, review, and update installation documentation, drawings, and part lists.
- Interface with external vendors, system integrators, and machine builders to ensure timely, budget-conscious, and performance-compliant project delivery.
- Provide training to internal staff and external trades on equipment installation procedures.
- Redline and modify machine documentation and coordinate updates with drafting teams.
- Procure and expedite required installation materials.
- Perform hands-on troubleshooting and corrective actions for defective components.
- Modify software programs used in process control and equipment automation.
- Support the design and development of integrated industrial control systems.
- Redesign mechanical/electrical components to reduce costs or resolve design issues.
- Understand and configure control systems for analog/digital I/O, logic sequences, and fail-safe states.
- strong hands-on experience using tools, instruments, and alignment devices.
- Ability to interpret and troubleshoot using electrical drawings and schematics.
- Knowledge of power systems (480VAC and below).
- Understanding of process variables: flow, temperature, pressure, level.
- Ability to work across disciplines (Mechanical, IT, Process Engineering).
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a team environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to job site safety and proactive risk management.
- strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent work experience (in rare cases).
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing or controls environment.
- Proficiency in: AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) & PLC/PC-based systems: Beckhoff, B&R, Allen-Bradley
- Knowledge of NEC, NFPA70, OSHA compliance.
- Experience in manufacturing or construction environments with a safety-first mindset.
- Familiarity with the optical fiber manufacturing process (a plus).
- Experience in PLC code and SCADA/HMI development.
- Understanding of PID control theory and electro-mechanical systems.
