Duties, Responsibilities & Other

KCI is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Facilities team. This engineer will serve as our primary technical qaqc role in review of projects through full project lifecycle.

Position requirements

  • Training and mentoring junior staff in mechanical engineering process for facility design
  • Develop QAQC processes and checklists
  • Strong project management skills and controls, act as project manager for multidiscipline projects (mep-fp, struct, arch, civil, etc) both in prime and subconsultant roles
  • Demonstrate proficient technical knowledge of HVAC and plumbing systems.
  • Act as technical lead for design of various building types which may include: retail, office, hospitality, multi-family residential, K-12 and higher education, and central plant for new work and renovation projects, both public and private.
  • Guide junior engineers and QC their work, while executing higher level HVAC/plumbing design on projects. Perform this for multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Assist in workload planning for staff. Proficient in fee, hours, and cost to complete estimates for projects
  • Ensure adherence to contracted scope of work as well as applicable codes and design standards.
  • Track project budget relative to work percent complete, as well as to the project scope. Identify issues with completing project scope for available budget and/or scope creep.
  • Manage project workload and junior staff to be sure project schedules are met.
  • Coordinate with other project disciplines e.g., electrical, structural, architectural.
  • Develop/edit specifications for projects either on drawings or in Masterspec book format.
  • Perform construction bid phase and construction administration services including responding to RFIs, reviewing equipment submittals, executing rough-in and final punch list inspections. For projects where KCI is the prime consultant, candidate may be asked to lead pre-bid and construction progress meetings.
  • Act as client point of contact for some projects.
  • Develop scope of work and fee for project proposals.
  • Perform non-design work such as energy audits and building assessments.
  • Advance technical knowledge through continuing education seminars and/or conferences.
  • Efficiently use software including Bluebeam, sharepoint, and Microsoft Office products.
  • PE is required,
  • Proficiency in hvac load calculation reviews (Trace and HAP)
Qualifications

Education and/or Work Experience Required: Bachelors Degree in related field (AEC Industry) Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience. Proven experience in planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring engineering projects. Proven experience in project management roles, with a track record of successful project delivery. Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, team members, and stakeholders. Knowledge of industry standards and best practices related to construction management, quality assurance, and safety protocols. Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions in a fast-paced environment.

Education and/or Work Experience Preferred: Masters Degree

Certificates, licenses, and/or Registrations Required: Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.)
