THE ROLE:
As AMD continues to grow, expanding our leadership in systems engineering expertise is crucial for the development of new products in our pipeline. We are a leading provider of semiconductors and high-performance computing, graphics, and visualization technologies for the PC, gaming, and data center industries. In this customer-focused role, you will guide complex products from inception to delivery, assisting customers in designing products that meet both AMD specifications and industry standards.
THE PERSON:

Your problem-solving skills will not only be crucial to our organization but to the industry at large. Successful thermal-mechanical engineers drive technical decisions while maintaining composure under pressure. You will be expected to learn continuously, as well as mentor and train customers along the way.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including ASIC and mechanical engineers, to create and refine thermal and mechanical solutions for products that incorporate AMD silicon.
- Actively support customers through all stages of thermal design and debugging, from initial simulations and feasibility studies right up to final product testing and release, ensuring optimal performance across various environmental conditions.
- Aid customers in mechanical design, helping in the development of enclosures, heat sinks, and other components to ensure alignment with overall thermal management strategies.
- Directly engage with customers to collect feedback, address any thermal and mechanical issues, and offer expert recommendations to enhance system designs.
- Design and conduct training sessions for customers, educating them on the proper use and maintenance of thermal and mechanical systems to optimize performance and extend product life.
- Compile detailed reports and presentations that outline the design process and thermal performance metrics, ensuring all solutions are clearly communicated and approved before the final customer product release.
- Offer continuous support for customer adoption, suggesting improvements and updates in thermal and mechanical designs to boost product longevity and performance.
- Provide expert guidelines on thermal management and mechanical configurations, including material selection and assembly procedures, tailored for systems that use AMD silicon.
- Engage in thorough troubleshooting and problem-solving with customers to diagnose and resolve complex product issues promptly.
- Foster strong, ongoing relationships with customers, acting as a technical advisor and ensuring they receive the highest level of service and support.
TOOLS AND SOFTWARE PROFICIENCY:
- Proficiency with thermal and mechanical design software such as SolidWorks, ANSYS Mechanical, FloTherm, and ICEPAK.
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, mechanical system design, and materials science.
- Experienced in conducting simulations, feasibility studies, and detailed performance analysis.
- Capability to troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex thermal and mechanical issues.
- Ability to develop and provide training in mechanical system design and optimization.
- Hands-on laboratory experience with thermal - mechanical systems testing and validation.
- Scripting skills for automation and customization of processes are highly regarded.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Product development with hardware platforms and their software & firmware ecosystems.
- Experience in the PC architecture space and familiarity with hands-on system setup & testing.
- Direct technical experience on APU/CPU system performance analysis and micro-architectural power management.
- Proven ability to deliver large cross-functional technical deliverables.
- Experience working in a fast-paced matrixed technical organization and multi-site environment.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering.
