Job Description

AECOM Technical Services, Inc. is seeking a Junior Geotechnical Engineer - Tailings and Dams, Denver, CO.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering, investigation, analysis, design, construction oversite and operational services for mine waste and tailings storage facilities.
  • Planning, implementing, and overseeing geotechnical exploration programs.
  • Assisting with laboratory testing assignments.
  • Performing geotechnical evaluations including material characterization of mine tailings behavior, shear strength and static and seismic loading response, seepage, slope stability, and settlement analyses.
  • Assisting with the development of geotechnical reports, drawings, and specifications.
  • Preparing and presenting technical presentations of evaluation results to the internal team.
  • Review geotechnical instrumentation and assist with the preparation of instrumentation monitoring reports.
  • May telecommute.

Qualifications
  • Candidates must have a Bachelors degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field and 2 years of experience in the job offered or in a Junior Geotechnical Engineer related occupation.
  • In the alternative, employer will accept a Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field and 1 year of experience in the job offered or in a Junior Geotechnical Engineer-related occupation.

Position requires experience in the following:

  1. Design analysis and operations of mine waste and tailings storage facilities.
  2. Planning, implementing, and overseeing geotechnical exploration programs including cone penetration testing and drilling.
  3. Assisting with laboratory testing assignments including sieve analyses, Atterberg Limits, specific gravity, water content, unit weight, consolidation, permeability, consolidated isotropically drained triaxial, consolidated isotropically undrained triaxial testing and direct simple shear strength testing.
  4. Performing geotechnical evaluations including material characterization of mine tailings behavior, shear strength and static and seismic loading response, seepage, slope stability, and settlement analyses with software including UTEXAS, SEEP/W, and SLOPE/W.
  5. Assisting with the development of geotechnical reports, drawings, and specifications.
  6. Preparing and presenting technical presentations of evaluation results to the internal team.
  7. Reviewing geotechnical instrumentation including piezometers and inclinometers and assisting with the preparation of instrumentation monitoring reports.
