DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Transportation Construction Inspector, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality of materials produced at asphalt, cement, and aggregate plants. Your responsibilities will include conducting inspections to ensure that materials meet specifications and approved quality control plans, as well as following designated testing methods and standards. You will also be responsible for observing shipments to verify their accuracy and witnessing tests performed by technicians at production plants. Through your diligent work, you will help ensure that the materials produced meet the necessary standards for use in construction projects.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week

  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

  • You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor's workload.

  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time after completion of the probationary period. Telework will be on an ad-hoc basis and only as approved. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Montoursville.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or

  • Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or

  • One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or

  • Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or

  • One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:

  • This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
