A Brief OverviewPerforms a variety of general, mechanical, and preventative maintenance duties as well as inspections, servicing, repair, and overhaul of equipment and facilities of the campus. Responsible for the operation, testing, and inspection of all boilers in the facility complex. Will report back to duty when a major electrical or boiler problem occurs.
What you will do
- Performs electrical checks and repairs on systems & equipment; and electrical installation of work & testing.
- Maintains current knowledge of all electrical codes and laws and hospital electrical systems and emergency power equipement.
- Informs contract electrician of all electrical work performed for final inspection and approval (applicable for Journeyman only). Monitors the activities of electrical contractors.
- Has knowledge of electrical system layouts, including electrical risers, breakers, etc.
- Maintains the electrician logs and monitors/repairs hospital boilers/systems.
- Ensures that all utility systems are kept running smoothly and efficiently by conducting daily tests, readings, adjustments and chores.
- Performs and records appropriate preventive maintenance on: air Handling Units, air conditioning systems, refrigeration systems, electro/mechanical equipment, boilers and heating systems, and, plumbing systems. Keeps accurate and current records for all work done.
- Keeps all work areas and work rooms clean and assures all chemicals are in correctly marked containers and are stored properly.
- Assists with repairs to roofs, ceilings, walls, floors & windows as assigned by Director and/or Supervisor.
- Assists with Electro/mechanical equipment rebuilding.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
- Associate's from a two-year college or technical school; or four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Crisis Prevention Intervention Certification - Crisis Prevention Institute within 1 Year
- State Journeyman Electrician - South Dakota Electrical Commission Upon Hire or
- State Journeyman Electrician - Licensing Board active in state of practice Upon Hire
- 1-3 years of related experience in lieu of preferred education, or equivalent education and experience.
