Job Description and Duties

The Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists (Board) is currently recruiting for a Permanent, Full-Time Senior Registrar (SR) in the Program Oversight Unit to serve as a Staff Professional Engineer.

Under the general direction of the Assistant Executive Officer and the Executive Officer, the SR works independently and is responsible for verifying the qualifying experience of applicants for licensure. The SR also provides technical expertise to the Enforcement, Examinations, and Licensing Units of Board.

This position is located in Sacramento.

Working Conditions

This position requires occasional travel to meetings representing the Board.

While this is a hybrid work position, the incumbent is required to work in the office a minimum number of 4 days in accordance with Department policy and the Board's operating needs and policies.

The Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists (Board) is a part of The Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA), under the State of California's Business, Consumer Services, and Housing Agency.

The mission of the Board is to protect the health, safety, welfare, and property of the public by regulating the practices of professional engineering, land surveying, geology, and geophysics. The Board achieves its mission by determining the qualifications of individuals for licensure and by enforcing the laws and regulations under the Board's jurisdiction.

  • The position(s) require(s) a(n) Electrical, Civil Engineer, Mechanical Engineer License. You will be required to provide a copy of your license prior to being hired.

Professional License Required - Licensure as an Electrical Engineer, Civil Engineer, or a Mechanical Engineer in good standing in the State of California. The license must be current and in good standing.

Conflict of Interest (COI)

This position is subject to Title 16, Section 3830 of the California Code of Regulations, the Department of Consumer Affairs'COI Regulations. The incumbent is required to submit a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700) within 30 days of assuming office, annually by April 1st and within 30 days of leaving office.

The Senior Registrar (SR) must have excellent interpersonal skills and a clear understanding of the professional licensure process so that they can give clear and accurate information to applicants. The SR must have excellent communication skills and be able to work well under pressure and rapidly-changing priorities. The SR is required to have a working knowledge regarding trends in professional engineering and related regulatory functions. The SR is required to use his or her resourcefulness as a professional to complete assignments. The SR must be able to work cooperatively with other Board staff, applicants, licensees, and members of the public.
