Zayo is seeking a Field Engineer Specialist to schedules on-site activities with customers, vendors and carriers. The Field Engineer Specialist installs, troubleshoots, repairs and maintains all equipment associated with ENA services to the customer premise, including data, voice, and wireless communication systems. Defines and diagnoses issues by applying technical expertise, product knowledge, communication and problem-solving skills. Uses independent judgment to determine root problem cause and provide resolution to customer. Manages multiple assignments with shifting priorities and time frames to meet customer expectations.

***This position MUST be located in Eastern Tennessee in the Knoxville, TN area***

Responsibilities :

+ Collaborates with ENA Engineers, P roject M anager s, and others to initiate technical process changes to improve serviceability, efficiency and customer experience .

+ Works with customers, vendors, and carriers to schedule on - site act ivities surrounding all trouble, survey and installation work .

+ Preps and test s hardware for installation . Update s firmware for each device . Ensure s that all config components are in place and ready for production prior to dispatch .

+ Travels to customer locations to install, troubleshoot and support inside wiring from carrier s d emarc to access router .

+ Troubleshoot s network hardware problems, utilize s network analyzers and test s equipment .

+ Responsible for knowing when to e scalate issues to appropriate support group . Interact s with third party vendors and consultants on behalf of ENA.

+ Handles low voltage demar c extensions and cross connect s between network devices which requires high - level knowledge of Ethernet communications and Layer 2 switching o f the OSI model .

+ Has a f irm grasp on layer 1 connections (Cat 5 & 6 terminations, house cabling RJ21X and 66 blocks, identifying different fiber terminations) which will also be used heavily while in the fiel d .

+ Creates , update s and maintain s accurate site documentation including all pictures and documents associated with ISP and OSP work for ENA builds into customers facilities .

+ Document s all project and trouble work proficiently in an internal ticketing system .

+ During ISP/OSP survey s, w orks with vendors and carriers to identify the most cost-effective pathway for both the customer and ENA .

+ Works with the vendor to have a firm quote generated in a timely fashion for Project Management approval and PO creation .

+ Maintains appropriate equipment levels for specific coverage area .

+ Work with Inventory Management to obtain hardware for upcoming installs .

+ Test s and repair s equipment returned from customer locations .

+ Responsible for adhering to departmental inventory management discipline and keeping ENAs Asset Management tool accurate and up-to-date in association with activities performed .

+ Occasionally coaches, instructs or assists others in area of expertise.

+ Improves performance impact through personal growth in knowledge and expertise.

+ Personally seeks continuous improvements in own job performance to contribute positively to department service excellence objectives and customer service.

+ Impact directly supports ENA achievement of short term and long-term success.

+ Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

+ Minimum of one (1) years of experience in the data networking field is required.

+ A working knowledge of Cisco command line is a requirement.

+ CCNA certification is a plus.

+ Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.

+ Experience with LAN/WAN/VPN and remote network technologies and protocols ( i.e.TCP /IP, HTTP, FTP, ATM, Frame-Relay, DSL) routers, hubs and servers.

+ Experience working with VoIP installation and maintenance .

+ Has k nowledge of WiFi design, installation and maintenance .

+ Experience working with carriers and troubleshooting high-cap acity data circuits is a plus .

+ Relies on experience and best judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

+ Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, or technical procedures.

+ Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

+ Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions .

+ Ability to communicate technical concepts to mix of non-technical and technical people.

+ Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

+ Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

+ Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds .

+ Must be able to utilize a standard 8ft or 10ft ladder.

+ Company hours accommodate our customers needs; evening, late night, and weekend hours are sometimes required to coordinate customer project work, maintenance, or emergency trouble restoration.

+ Travel is required 90% of the time. Must be willing to stay overnight as needed .

+ A good driving record and a valid drivers license are required to maintain this position.

Estimated Base Salary Range: $56,300 -$75,050 USD/annually.

The base pay range shown is a guideline and reasonable estimate for this role. It takes into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions. Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted range based upon geographic location, work experience, skill level, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Non- sales roles may be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive plan. Sales roles may be eligible to participate in a sales incentive plan.

Additionally, this position may be eligible for certain benefits, such as health insurance, life insurance, disability retirement plans, paid time off.
