R4809: Aircraft Paint Specialist

Perform any duties, generally of a non repetitive or specialized nature involved in the preparation for and painting of aircraft, details, assemblies, and/or installations, related equipment, special packaging, displays, or other applications. Plan and perform cleaning operations to prepare surfaces for Plastic Media Blasting, Rockhard Coating and subsequent applications of desired finishes.

Typical Responsibilities
Perform any hand or spray paint operations required, including, but not limited to, presentations, displays, mock-ups, experimental and prototype aircraft, etc.
In cooperation with engineers, customer representatives, product support, develop color schemes, patterns, etc., assist with evaluation of new or modified paints, techniques, or equipment.
Lay out and paint signs and insignia involving free hand lettering, stencils decalcomania, or customized aircraft markings, and special plant or office signs as requested
Follow drawings and specifications to layout and paint customers identification and distinctive insignia, and to prepare and apply pounce patterns, and other marking and identifying data.
Follow specifications, drawings, operation sheets and specific instructions to prepare surfaces and spray paint to produce high grade finishes on aircraft, parts, assemblies and or installations involving a variety of finishes and complex color blending.
Follow prescribed procedures and process specification outline and maintain certification for Plastic Media Blast of aircraft, parts and assemblies.
Operate Rockhard oven to prepare parts, components and assemblies for Rockhard Specialty Coating.
Prepare and apply filler compounds to build up or fill holes, dents, scratches, breaks, joints or other surface flaws; shape, smooth and blend filler material to surrounding surface using floats, rasps, sanders, buffers and other hand or power tools.
Follow prescribed procedures for the application of primers, undercoats and finishes to achieve uniform coverage, proper blending, etc., within thickness and weight limitation specified.
Follow best practices of the trade to spray smooth, even coats while working from scaffolding, staging, stands, creepers, etc., insuring specified coverage on areas not easily accessible.
Correct for any adverse conditions affecting spray operations such as humidity, temperatures, improper pressures, etc.
Perform any necessary repair operations to attain required flawless high grade surface finish, such as sand, scuff, rub, and blend out scratches, correct for sags, runs, orange-peel, blisters, blush and other imperfections.
Occasionally, as workflow demands, direct up to five helpers in the preparation of aircraft for paint, masking, taping, stripping, caulking, touch-up, etc.
Perform other duties in paint shop areas within or outside the department as directed.
Refer only unusual situations to Working Leader or Foreman
Follow all rules and regulations pertaining to environmental health and safety.
Segregate waste material and follow good housekeeping practices.
Contribute to the overall effectiveness of equipment by performing operator-required upkeep.Requires thorough knowledge of shop practices to include painting, ability to read drawings, as well as ability to apply paint finishes
