Focus: We are seeking a knowledgeable and safety-focused Facilities Mechanical Engineer to support mechanical infrastructure at our ammunition manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and upgrade of critical systems such as HVAC, compressed air, chilled water, steam, and process ventilation. The ideal candidate will lead engineering projects, ensure regulatory and safety compliance, and contribute to the reliability and efficiency of the facilitys operations in a high-demand, precision-focused environment.

Mechanical Engineer - Facilities Essential Job Functions:

  • Design, operate, and maintain essential mechanical systems including HVAC, compressed air, process piping, and industrial ventilation to support ammunition production and facility needs.
  • Lead mechanical engineering projects such as equipment retrofits, utility expansions, and energy efficiency upgradesensuring timelines, budgets, and safety protocols are met.
  • Perform inspections and root cause analysis to proactively resolve mechanical failures, reduce downtime, and optimize preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Partner with safety, production, and environmental teams to ensure all systems meet compliance requirements including OSHA, ATF, EPA, and DoD regulations specific to ammunition manufacturing.
  • Oversee contractors, manage technical documentation, and maintain up-to-date system drawings, standard operating procedures, and maintenance records.

Mechanical Engineer - Facilities Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree* in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience in facilities or mechanical engineering in a manufacturing or defense-related environment.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical systems used in ammunition or explosives manufacturing preferred.
  • Familiar with NFPA, ASHRAE, and OSHA codes as well as ATF and DoD facility safety standards.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, CMMS, and engineering documentation tools.

Location-Specific Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid US Drivers License.
  • This position requires successful vetting as an Employee Possessor in accordance with U.S. Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
  • This position requires access to ITAR controlled technical data, and as such, employment will be contingent upon the candidate's ability to access ITAR controlled technical data pursuant to an export license approved by the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, if required.
  • This position requires successful vetting for unescorted access in accordance with U.S. Army and Department of Defense access policies. The US Government does not allow non-US citizens on-site at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. Therefore, to be considered in the hiring process, the candidate must be a US citizen.
