Fully remote are roles that can be performed remotely, require employees to live in approved states and will have purpose-driven in-person interactions on occasion.

Summary

As the employee becomes qualified through acquired experience and formal and/or on the-job training, drives, tows, and operates construction equipment including mobile cranes, earth boring machines, bulldozers, special automotive equipment and all similar equipment, and performs other incidental work including minor repairs.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Duties:

  • Operate construction equipment including all auxiliary equipment.
  • Follow the Company's instructions and rules; observe State and local requirements for the movement and operation of the assigned equipment.
  • Be responsible for its safe operation when assigned to this equipment, in accordance with the rules and regulations of the New Jersey Department of Labor and Industry.
  • Perform inspections required for the safe operation of the Construction equipment and its associated equipment.
  • Instruct other employees so that they may meet the qualifications for the classification.
  • Attach, detach, and replace auxiliary equipment such as crane buckets, pulley block assemblies, and hooks; change crane cables; assemble and disassemble booms and tie rods, and other types of auxiliary equipment.
  • Inspect, clean, paint, adjust, lubricate, and make minor repairs to the mobile crane, and its auxiliary equipment.
  • Perform other similar or less skilled work of the occupational group.
  • Assist other mechanics in making major repairs or performing overhaul jobs on the equipment operated.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must meet the Company's "General Requirements"; and, in addition:

  • Mobile Crane Operators must posses and maintain all certifications from the National Commission for certification of Crane Operators or any other organization approved by any State or Federal Agency. Must have the ability to acquire a working knowledge of the operation, care, and minor maintenance of large mobile cranes and other similar equipment.
  • Must have the manual dexterity to perform smoothly the operations involved in the use of the assigned equipment; must have the coordination of bodily movements necessary to handle the multiple operations of levers, pedals, and other control equipment for the smooth and safe handling of heavy loads with a large crane. Must be able to perform such operations as boom, raise, and lower loads safely and efficiently.
  • Must have the ability to diagnose operating difficulties and faults experienced with the automotive and other equipment associated with large mobile cranes, and to correct minor operating difficulties experienced with such equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS CONTINUED:

  • Must be able to understand and apply oral and written data supplied in the form of memoranda, sketches, diagrams, charts and tabulations, as related to the stability of large mobile cranes and adequacy of steel cables based on safe loading limitations under variable conditions of length and angle of boom, radius of lift, the use of outriggers, uneven ground, and position of boom relative to its base.
  • Must know the capacities of the various cables and slings used with large mobile cranes; must understand the load limitations in the use of slings.
  • Must be able to thoroughly understand the safe loading limits of the block and tackle used in the work; must be able to rig up the required block and tackle to obtain the correct speed of travel for the various loads.
  • Must be resourceful and be able to use good judgment in this work; must be capable of good workmanship.
  • Must have the ability to acquire a working knowledge of the safe operations, care, and maintenance of earth boring machines, bulldozers, and other similar construction equipment and of the safe loading limits of winches, cables, derricks, booms, blades, and other integral parts or attachments of such equipment.
  • Must have the mechanical aptitude to perform satisfactorily such work as changing bulldozer blades; changing augers on earth boring machines; changing attachments on augers; and inspecting, cleaning, painting, adjusting, lubricating, and performing maintenance work on earth boring machines, bulldozers, and other similar construction equipment.
  • Must have the ability to acquire a practical knowledge of the operation of the winch as it applies to setting poles.
  • Must have the ability to acquire a practical knowledge of the operation of internal combustion engines, power braking systems, ignition, lighting, starting and fuel systems; must be familiar with the component parts of trucks and associated equipment.
  • Must be able to work from manufacturer's instruction books and manuals to service, grease and perform routine maintenance on trucks and equipment in the field.
  • Must be capable of operating automotive equipment off the improved roads, through fields, and have a good knowledge of the proper gear changes when driving under these conditions.
  • Must have successfully completed the Equipment Operator's portion of the pre-employment test, except that an employee hired prior to May 1, 1983 who has or obtains a high school diploma or its equivalent does not have to complete the pre-employment test.
  • Must have the ability to learn:
    • The safe operation of heavy automotive equipment including truck and trailer equipment and the maneuvering of the combination in heavy traffic and on narrow streets.
    • The purpose and functioning of electrical equipment involved in the operation of trucks and trailers.
    • The operation of trucks off improved roads or through fields, and the proper gear changes unde
