In this role, you will evaluate project documentation and develop cost estimates for building automation system installations and retrofits. Most of your focus will be on HVAC controls projects (including DDC and VAV), collaborating closely with the sales, engineering, and operations teams to deliver accurate and competitive proposals. This position is ideal for someone with a solid controls background and a collaborative mindset in project management. Project Estimator (building automation/building management systems exp req.) Responsibilities
• Analyze electrical, mechanical, and architectural drawings and specifications
• Deliver precise and timely estimates for HVAC automation projects
• Generate takeoffs and BOMs for controls, sensors, network components, and labor
• Review RFQs and bid documents to fully understand project requirements
• Collaborate with sales and design teams to ensure alignment and assess technical capabilities
• Communicate with vendors and suppliers regarding pricing for controls and materials
• Prepare detailed cost breakdowns, proposal documents, and supporting schedules
• Contribute to value engineering efforts by suggesting cost-saving ideas
• Update estimating tools, cost databases, and proposal templates regularly
• Assist in the transition process to project managers and field crews post-award
Project Estimator (building automation/building management systems exp req.) Qualifications
• 3+ years of estimating building management systems experience required
• Strong background writing proposals and scope of work required
• Estimating software experience required
