Responsible for providing leadership over the financial management function of the hospital and related entities. Provides direct financial and operational analysis for facility leadership to support decision making and improve performance. Participates in the organizations strategic planning and project management process. Primary focus is accounting and related processes, financial reporting, budgeting, revenue cycle, cash management, third party payer contracting and compliance matters.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Contractual write-off review and analysis; Medicare settlement and interim rate review and analysis; Managing Medicare/Medicaid Cost Report matters. Month end financial statement review and approval; Approving accounting transactions and AP documents; Preparation of audit schedules, meeting with external auditors and managing auditing matters.
  • Presentation of detailed monthly financial reports to the Board of Trustees Finance Committee and full board meetings.
  • Third party payer relations; negotiating new and existing contracts;
  • Investment manager relations; Investment portfolio review, analysis and reporting; Application of effective cash management techniques.
  • Completion of annual operating, capital and FTE budgeting processes.
  • Member of internal compliance committee; Review of issues and assisting with resolution of such as needed.
  • Attend and participate in internal and external meetings as required.
  • Actively supports the Organizational Mission and promotes a Customer Service focus in their daily work.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled. Shows respect for co-workers by following established break times. Keeps personal conversations and telephone calls to a minimum.
  • Completes assignments in a neat, accurate, prompt and thorough fashion.
  • Works cooperatively with associates, supervisors and subordinates and supports hospital and departmental goals and objectives.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, physicians, volunteers, co-workers, and all departments of the hospital in a pleasant and respectful style. Represents the hospital in a positive and professional manner.
  • Maintains the integrity of confidential patient information in accordance with HIPAA and hospital policy, including accessing, using and disclosing patient information relevant to the individual employees job duties. Also maintains confidentiality of hospital business affairs. Is a standing member of the Hospitals Corporate Compliance Committee.
  • Adheres to the standards of Magruder Hospitals corporate compliance policies and seeks guidance and training when necessary to resolve questions about the policies. Reports violations in accordance with corporate compliance and organizational standards.
  • Comprehends and complies with all applicable hospital and departmental policies and procedures to include but are not limited to safety policies, including patient safety policies, OSHA Guidelines, Standard Precautions, chemical safety procedures, MSDS, Corporate Compliance and Risk Management.
  • Actively participates in performance improvement and quality improvement initiatives.
  • With input from the board committee, create appropriate record keeping system for tracking donor participation, identification
  • Keep up-to-date on current fundraising and public relations programs, practices, and procedures used in the nonprofit sector and to inform the board, volunteers, and other leadership of items that would be of benefit and interest to them in their work on behalf the Magruder Foundation.
  • Prepare detailed plans of actions for all approved fundraising and community relations programs, including budgets to support their implementation
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions; ensures compliance with Joint Commission and other external and internal regulatory agencies.

  • Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

  • Guides management and employee actions by researching, developing, writing, and updating policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines; communicates and enforces hospital culture, values and standards of performance in a consistent and thorough fashion.
  • Establishes, maintains and administers policies and procedures for departmental functions that are consistent with and reflect the objectives of the broader hospital policies and procedures; develops, revises and eliminates departmental forms as needed.
  • Maintains an organized department and filing system; directs and coordinates all activities within the department by preparing work schedules, making job assignments, overseeing maintenance of equipment, ordering supplies, etc.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in conferences and educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Other duties as requested or assigned.
  • MBA Degree with undergraduate BS/BA Degree in accounting, finance, business or related field or
  • BS/BA Degree with CPA credentials and prior acute care hospital experience
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of GAAP.
  • Good understanding of the business of healthcare.
  • Ability to communicate effective with clinical leadership.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective leadership and team building skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in fast paced environment.
  • Excellent computer skills including using Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • A minimum of five years experience in financial healthcare management position in acute care hospital setting.
  • Ten years experience in financial healthcare management position out of acute care hospital setting.

Preferred:

  • Good understanding of clinical operations in general.
  • ACO development and understanding of clinical/financial integration.
  • Excellent knowledge of revenue cycle management practices.
