We are seeking an experienced, successful, and engaged Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team. This position is expected to work out of our office at 675/705 Los Esteros Rd. in San Jose and limited job-related travel may be required.
Position Summary:
GreenWaste is seeking to fill the position of Heavy Equipment Mechanic to provide support to one or more facilities. This role’s main function will is to maintain the heavy equipment with minimal down time.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Follow all safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues on on-road vehicles.
- Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues heavy equipment, such as CAT Loaders, Excavators, Skip Loaders, and other heavy machinery.
- Ability to perform preventative maintenance on a routine basis and major repairs as needed.
- Document repairs, parts used, and times to supervisor.
- Perform inventory checks as needed.
- Clean up spills in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Insure the proper maintenance of equipment and tools and the overall cleanliness and proper functioning of the area, tools, and the machinery after use.
- Keep work environment clean and tidy.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time
- The ability to work as a team and work well with others
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions
- The work habits to have are reliable transportation, being punctual, and reliable in order to minimize disruptions to the day-to-day operations
- Must have basic familiarity with all equipment maintained by GreenWaste
- Must be able to perform basic equipment maintenance and repair procedures
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of mechanical experience
Language Skill:
- Proficiency in English and/or Spanish
Physical Demands:
- Requires the ability to handle material weighing 75 lbs.
- Requires going up and down stairs to reach certain equipment locations
- The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, stand, climb, balance, reach, stoop, or kneel
- Must be able to remain in a standing position for extended periods
- Must be capable of lifting arms above shoulder level and work in that position for extended periods
- Must be able to work in limited spaces
- Must be able to work in kneeling or prone position for extended periods
- Must be able to crawl under and inside vehicles to locate and work on problems Must be able to bend/twist freely at neck and waist
- Must be capable of simple grasping with both hands
- Must be capable of simple grasping, power grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling, reaching above shoulders and below waist with both hands
- Must be capable of driving and operating multiple types of fleet vehicles including forklift
Work Environment:
Typical work week is Monday through Friday. Overtime/weekend work required as needed. Will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. Ability to work in setting with frequent changes in equipment and start/end time based on the operational needs for the day and or week.
