SUMMARY
Under general supervision, maintain the flow and drainage of water, air and other gases by assembling, installing, and repairing pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures districtwide. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all plumbing systems in district facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma
EXPERIENCE:
Five years experience in plumbing field
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid Texas driver's license
Texas Master plumber license
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques.
- Knowledge of plumbing codes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve problems.
- Working knowledge of and ability to use hand and power tools; pipe bender; propane torch; welding equipment; sewer rooter; heavy equipment; including forklift, trencher, and backhoe.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintenance and Repair
- Assemble, install, maintain, and pressure test all pipes, fittings and fixtures of heating, water, drainage, sprinkler and gas systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.
- Determine sources of plumbing malfunctions and complete repairs as indicated or according to work orders.
- Operate all tools including mechanical and electrical equipment entailed to complete work duties
- Install and repair pipes, fittings, valves, fixtures and plumbing system equipment, including, but not limited to, sinks, commodes, water heaters, water softeners.
- Receive and complete work orders.
- Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.
- Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
- Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment and material.
- Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
- Work with buildings, grounds and equipment following established inspection procedures.
- Respond to emergency calls as needed.
- Maintain a physical file of department maintenance plan.
Safety
- Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques while performing job duties.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
Other
- Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
- Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required.
While performing the duties of this job, frequent walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting and carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching is required. Frequent districtwide travel is required. Specific vision abilities require close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The employee must maintain emotional control under stress.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, heavy lifting, and climbing are required. The employee works outside and inside, in tiring and uncomfortable positions, around gas lines, around fumes and toxic chemicals. The employee may be exposed to extreme temperatures. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud, depending upon the activity being conducted.
