Operates all County owned equipment sufficient to repair, rebuild and maintain roads, shoulders or other surfaces; includes drainage and vegetation management.

- Perform preventative maintenance and servicing of equipment.
- Responsibility to insure a safe unimpeded passage for the driving public.
- Skillful in operation of heavy equipment related to road construction and repair.
- Ability to maintain and service assigned equipment.
- Ability to recognize potential hazards and safety problems.
- Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations related to the construction industry.
- Knowledge of practices, methods and materials used in various maintenance and repair activities related to road construction.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.
- Ability to communicate, understand and carry-out oral and written instruction.
- Ability to understand the need for safety precautions.
- Ability to work in inclement weather and with stressful situations.
- Valid Washington State Drivers' License.
- Valid Flaggers Certification.
- Successful completion of Safety Training.
- Successful completion of CPR and First Aid Training.
- Other training as required by OSHA/WISHA and Island County.
- Must have Class A CDL
