Purpose\:
The Senior / Principal Structural Designer is responsible for leading the layout, design, and verification of complex structural systems by applying both theoretical knowledge and practical experience. This role produces detailed 2D steel and concrete drawings and develops 3D structural models, extracting high-quality drawings from those models using advanced AutoCAD and related design tools. In addition to overseeing the work of other designers, the position contributes to project planning by providing accurate input on design budgets and schedules.
Responsibilities\:
- Provide guidance and expertise to structural design personnel to ensure discipline best practices and consistency in design practices are followed within the group.
- Prepares, or provide direction/supervision for, detailed structural steel, concrete, foundation and site preparation drawings, and structural models for a complete phase of a project requiring the application of theoretical and practical design knowledge.
- Ensure work is carried out competently and effectively, within time and budget constraints, and that project objectives are satisfied.
- Ensure integrity of work scope and that all work on projects is carried out in accordance with applicable industry codes and standards.
- Promote the department policies related to discipline personnel consistently working within the quality management objectives.
- Identify and maintain software proficiency necessary to enable civil/structural design group to function effectively.
- Sponsor design change management to maintain project budget and schedule frameworks.
- Checks work assigned to lower-grade CAD Technicians for technical quality, accuracy and compliance with customer, Company and discipline standards.
- Performs discipline design tasks which regularly require the application of fundamental engineering concepts.
- Reviews manufacturer or fabricator drawing submittals for conformance with contract specifications.
- Establishes design requirements for an assigned phase of a project, determines manpower requirements and monitors schedule/progress.
- Provides input to performance appraisals of lower-grade personnel assigned to project.
- Supports field assignments as required. What you will bring
- Senior Level \: Minimum of 10 years’ experience in structural design within oil & gas, refining, midstream, petrochemical, or onshore facility environments.
- Principal Level \: Minimum of 15 years of relevant structural design experience, including supervisory or lead design roles on major projects.
- Proficient in 2D and 3D AutoCAD, Civil 3D, CADWorx, and other design software relevant to structural engineering.
- Deep understanding of structural design principles, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize, and deliver high-quality results within time and budget constraints.
- Skilled in producing complex design deliverables and coordinating multi-discipline design interfaces.
- Experience in developing and checking fabrication-ready structural drawings and models.
- Proven experience leading design teams, managing workloads, and developing others.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated customer focus with a commitment to delivering accurate, on-time, and cost-effective solutions.
- Ability to manage change, drive results, and maintain integrity and trust in high-pressure project environments.

- Salary Range for Senior Designer is $103,163 to $151,710, commensurate with experience.
- Salary Range for Principal Designer is $127,816 to $187,965, commensurate with experience.

- Associate degree, technical certification.
