Note: The hourly rate for this position is $17 - $19 / hour. This range is a good-faith estimate based on factors such as relevant skills, experience, education, training, geographic location and other considerations permitted by law. Responsibilities:

  • Street Sweeper performs various skilled work in the operation and use of heavy and specialized equipment for use in various construction, maintenance, and stormwater management activities.
  • Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions : Drives, uses, and operates sweeping machine that cleans streets, parking lots, medians, alleys, and intersections; gathers and disposes of trash, waste materials, and other accumulations
  • Fills, monitors, and use water tank of machine; operates sweeper machine along streets and parking lots near curbs, medians and parked vehicles
  • Uses and operates controls to activate rotary brushes and water spray; ensures machine picks up dust and trash from paved street and deposits it in the dirt trap of the machine; identifies and makes any repairs needed to ensure machine operation
  • Activates controls to dump refuse into piles, containers, or dump trucks; adheres to storage, dumping, and safety standards; performs skills with professionalism and completes tasks with competency and efficiency
  • Prepares, drafts, and delivers computerize daily reports on sweeping hours, mileage, water usage, loads or debris, and maintenance performed on sweeper
  • Drives dump trucks and performs incidental semi-skilled and unskilled labor; addresses problems in the field and resolves issues within scope of authority
  • Performs routine safety and pre/post operational checks on equipment to include checking oil, fluids, coolant, filters, lights, brooms, greasing all bearings and fittings, changing out brooms and washing unit daily
  • Wears proper personal protective equipment; understands and applies all safety and hazard precautions, regulations and protocols
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Qualifications Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment: A valid State driver's license is required.
  • Previous heavy equipment operation required - will train how to operate sweeper correctly The employee must be able to demonstrate equipment operation and have a good working knowledge of the equipment.
  • Basic computer skills for communicating via email and for utilizing the City's intranet system and GIS to obtain information is highly desirable and is a necessary skill to learn prior to qualifying for internal promotional opportunities.
  • Education and Experience: High School Diploma
  • High School Equivalency Diploma or G.E.D.Certificate
  • PLUS two (2) years of experience in the operation of the appropriate heavy equipment or related equipment used in construction and maintenance activities; or completion of an appropriate authorized City of Clearwater training program; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • Supplemental Information Knowledge of , Methods, techniques, equipment, and materials used in the installation, maintenance, cleaning, inspection, and repair of the open and closed stormwater conveyance systems, streets, curb and gutter, and related equipment and appurtenances
