JOB REQUIREMENTS: The duties described below are indicative of what the

Diesel & Heavy Equipment Mechanic might be asked to perform. Tasks

routinely performed: Preventative maintenance and repairs to all city

equipment and vehicles, complying with health and safety regulations and

policies. Repair hydraulic systems, electrical systems, fuel systems and

air systems of city equipment. Under the direction of the Fleet

Maintenance Foreman responsible for tracking and organizing work orders,

recording preventative maintenance and repairs made on City equipment.

This work is managed via a computerized software system. Assist with the

fabrication of, and welding repairs to, city equipment. Cleaning of

shop, storage area, and parts room. Assures that tools and equipment are

properly maintained and kept in proper working condition. Performs

emergency repairs and maintenance operations in the field when assigned.

Performs occasional body repair and painting of vehicles and equipment.

Using excellent customer service skills establishes and maintains

effective working relationships with other employees, officials and all

members of the general public. Pickup and deliver part; equipment and

materials as required. Tasks occasionally performed to support other

divisions of Public Works: Safely operates snow plow and other equipment

in accordance with best management practices. Perform manual snow

removal via shoveling, snow blowing etc. Assists in the construction,

maintenance, repair and cleaning of City buildings as directed. Assists

in the moving of City equipment and furniture as directed. Additional

assigned. \*\*\*\*\* OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: To perform the

job successfully; an individual must be able to perform each duty

satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the

knowledge, skill and/or ability required at the time of hire or for

continuation of employment. Knowledge of: Hydraulic systems, electrical

systems, fuel systems and air systems for all equipment utilized by the

City, this includes both gas and diesel engines and manual and automatic

transmissions. Maintenance and repair techniques associated with these

systems Basic techniques used for body repair and painting of vehicles

and equipment. Concepts associated with arc welding, acetylene cutting

and metal fabricating techniques. Standard materials, tools and

equipment and skill in use and care of tools Basic methods used in snow

plowing Basic computer programs including, but not limited to Microsoft

Word, Outlook and Excel Ability to: Perform basic mathematics Read and

comprehend equipment service manuals Maintain and keep up to date

equipment service records utilizing computerized software tools.

Diagnose mechanical problems and make repairs. Interpret various

technical drawings and schematics. Operate and maintain automotive and

hand-held power tools and equipment Operate and maintain various heavy

and light equipment in a safe manner Follow oral and written

instructions. Work independently without day to day oversight during

times of absence of Fleet Maintenance Foreman. Establish and maintain

effective working relationships with employees, other departments and

the public. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. To perform

this job successfully, an individual must meet the following minimum

qualifications. The qualifications listed below are required at the time

of hire and/or for continuation of employment. Must be 18 years of age

Be able to work a 40-hour work week. Possess excellent communication

skills Valid Driver\'s License Must be able to read and write English
