The Role

Wood is currently seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to support the execution of capital projects within a biopharma Engineering, Procurement & Construction Management (EPCM) program based out of our Rockville, MD office. This individual will work under the direction of the Onsite Construction Manager to oversee field activities, ensure safety and quality compliance, and drive project execution. Additionally, they will be involved in upfront design reviews, constructability assessments, resource alignment, and subcontractor scope reviews. This is a high-impact role within a dynamic EPCM program, offering the opportunity to contribute to the successful execution of critical biopharma facility projects.

Expected:

  • 7+ years of experience in construction supervision. Preferred experience is within biopharma, life sciences, or other regulated industrial environments or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of cGMP facility construction, process systems, and utilities.
  • Experience working within EPCM project delivery models preferred.
  • Familiarity with design reviews, constructability assessments, and subcontractor management.
  • Proven ability to lead field teams, manage multiple contractors, and coordinate cross-functional project efforts.
  • Strong understanding of construction safety regulations and best practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and project specifications.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with project managers, engineers, and tradespeople.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, scheduling tools (Primavera P6, Touchplan), Pull Planning methodology and construction management software (Procore).
  • OSHA 30 Certification

Typical responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day construction activities, ensuring alignment with project schedules, safety protocols, and quality standards.
  • Work closely with the Onsite Construction Manager to implement construction execution plans, coordinate subcontractors, and manage field logistics.
  • Participate in design reviews to provide constructability feedback, identify potential challenges, and drive value-engineered solutions.
  • Assist the Project Manager in defining work scopes for subcontractors, ensuring clear alignment with project objectives and requirements.
  • Monitor and enforce site safety compliance, working closely with EHS teams to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Support project scheduling efforts, providing field-based insights on sequencing, resource allocation, and potential risks.
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and project controls teams to align construction execution with project objectives.
  • Identify and escalate field issues, changes, or conflicts, facilitating timely resolution to minimize impacts.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of construction progress, daily reports, and field observations.
  • Be punctual and accountable. Typical work hours are 0600-1430, however these may adjust based on workload & project requirements. Work hours shall be coordinated and communicated by the Construction Manager to support successful project delivery.
  • Coordinate with trade partners, vendors and stakeholders
  • Oversee inspections and testing on projects
  • Profound decision-making and problem-solving skills to address any issues that might arise during a construction project.
