Position Purpose

Performs skilled glazing and related carpentry work. Repairs, installs, and fabricates glass in schools and other assigned facilities. Repairs and constructs metal and wood sashes and hardware. Responsible for installation and repairs of constructional steel and store front glazing insulation of windows. Removes and installs glass in windows, skylights, greenhouses, display cases, and table tops.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Inspects jobs and determines appropriate materials and resources needed to complete the work; plans work completion and schedules with identified facility personnel to ensure the safety and security of buildings.

Removes broken panes and cleans sashes using appropriate tools, including, chisels, screwdrivers, propane torches and a variety of power tools for cutting, polishing and shaping glass and metal.

Replaces and secures glass panes of all sizes with a variety of fasteners.

Makes showcase doors; sizes and edges glass, cuts and polishes glass, and drills as required.

Modifies window frames and hardware as necessary to fit a variety of types and sizes of glass; ensures area is able to accept air conditioners, as needed.

Fabricates thermal panes, window hardware and other materials as required.

Reviews and makes recommendations concerning new materials and techniques.

Coordinates work with other trades and building users.

Drives a truck and ensures truck is kept properly supplied with tools and materials.

Safety

Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.

Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.

Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.

Travel Requirements

Frequent travel between schools, school district buildings, and central offices.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals. Standard hardware equipment including small hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments; light truck or van.

Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; occasional sitting.

Motion: High degree of physical dexterity and ability to perform work requiring considerable standing and bending. Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving.

Lifting: Frequent lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over).

Environment: Works inside and outside (frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, electrical hazards and inclement weather); frequent walking on slippery or uneven surfaces; works around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; frequent districtwide travel.

Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.

Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; regularly works with frequent interruptions; frequently works irregular and/or prolonged hours

Emergency Response: Responds to emergency work requests and works unexpected overtime with limited or no advanced knowledge.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Education:

Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency required.

Certification/License:

Clear and valid Texas Driver's License required;

Insurable by the District's insurance carrier required;

Experience:

5 years' experience required.

Language: Bilingual (English/Spanish) working proficiency preferred in some settings.

INSURABILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL DRIVERS

Must be at least 21 years old.

NO positive drug or alcohol tests including pre-employment, random, post-accident or reasonable suspicion.

Driving and accident record:

Valid Texas Department of Public Safety Driver Record Check Type 3A-Certified list of all crashes and violations dps.texas.gov/DriverLicense/driverrecords.htm

NO more than 2 violations during previous 36 months including:

moving traffic violations (including no more than 1 preventable accident);

failure to provide proof of valid driver's license or proof of insurance;

equipment violations.

NO Driving Under the Influence (DUI) for drug or alcohol.

NO leaving scene of an accident (bodily injury or physical damage).

NO vehicular assault, manslaughter, or homicide.

NO operating a vehicle with suspended or revoked driver's license.

NO reckless driving, speed contests, drag racing, or highway racing.

NO use of a vehicle in commission of a felony.

NO operating a vehicle without owner's permission (unauthorized use or grand theft).

NO permitting an unlicensed person to drive.

NO speeding more than 20 mph over the posted speed limit.

NO history of a conviction in a commercial or personal motor vehicle.

Additional restrictions may if directed by FWISD's Fleet Insurance Carrier.
