Position Summary
Assist in the construction, maintenance, repair and remodeling of City facilities/structures and parks; perform less complex construction tasks and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
High school diploma or GED.
One (1) year construction, carpentry, plumbing or welding preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a valid City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.
Preferred Knowledge
- Basic methods and techniques of general construction
- Basic labor tasks in support of carpentry, block laying, brick laying, painting and cement work
- Operational characteristics of basic construction equipment and tools
- Occupational hazards and standard safety practices
Preferred Skills & Abilities
- Learn to independently perform rough and finish carpentry, cement finishing, welding and plumbing tasks
- Operate a variety of construction equipment in a safe and effective manner
- Learn to read and follow blueprints and sketches
- Learn to work independently in the absence of supervision
- Communicate clearly and concisely
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Perform the essential function of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
