Position Overview:
The successful candidate will assist in evaluating engineering due diligence and related matters associated with AEGON Asset Management, primarily for real estate investments.
Job Description
Responsibilities:
Partner with asset management teams on engineering related matters in the interest of effectively identifying, explaining and managing risks.
Assist internal clients with managing and reviewing engineering due diligence for proposed real estate investments. Actual due diligence initial reviews will typically, but not always, be performed by consultants. Primary clients include commercial mortgage loans, low-income housing tax credits and equity investments. Client services includes, as a primary duty, construction monitoring for new construction and renovation debt and equity investments.
Conduct site inspections to assess progress, identify potential issues, and ensure quality control.
Identify and quantify for internal clients significant engineering risks and costs including site civil and building structure/design/repair/maintenance considerations.
Assist asset management and loan servicing with respect to engineering issues, including review of site development and planning, construction plans/specifications, applications for payment, change orders, code review, insurance damage claims and on-site inspections.
Assist in selecting and managing engineering and construction consultants and firms to support due diligence, construction/renovation projects, site civil improvements and other engineering projects.
Evaluate risks of the Aegon portfolio with respect to natural disasters.
Support implementation of investor-driven energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives to reduce operating costs and environmental impact.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, architecture, construction management, or related field.
Two years of related work experience.
Ability to work independently.
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional Engineer or AIA designation.
LEED Accredited Professional designation.
Strong knowledge of construction processes, building systems, and industry standards.
Familiarity with relevant building codes and regulations.
Working knowledge of multifamily mechanical systems and building science.
Experience with property resiliency assessments, energy audits, and geographic information systems.
Experience with Microsoft Copilot, Microsoft Power Automate, or other systems to support process improvement and overall team efficiency.
Self-motivated with an ability to work independently.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
Ability to support multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
