Building Inspector
Job Description

We are seeking a knowledgeable Building Inspector with a strong understanding of construction practices, including materials, methods, and techniques commonly used in the industry. The ideal candidate will possess a solid grasp of local construction laws, codes, and regulatory requirements specific to the District.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret construction drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Identify structural issues and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Apply established guidelines and use sound judgment and diplomacy when addressing new challenges.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, contractors, property owners, tradespeople, and the general public.
  • Ensure consistent and reliable attendance.
Essential Skills
  • Building inspection and thorough understanding of building codes.
  • Knowledge of structural and building defects and appropriate corrective measures.
  • Familiarity with accessibility requirements for building, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Understanding of permitting, licensing, and site requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel, smartphones/tablets.
  • Comfortable with digital recordkeeping and reporting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with Accela Automation and Bluebeam Revu is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of modern office procedures is beneficial.
  • Building Inspector license.
  • Five years of experience as a Building Inspector or related position.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Florida Standard Building Inspector License (required within 1 year).
  • Florida Standard Building Plans Examiner License (required within 1 year).
  • ICC Certification (preferred).
  • Valid Florida Drivers License.
Work Environment

The role requires the physical capability to lift and/or carry up to 50 lbs. occasionally and 25 lbs. frequently. The employee will frequently sit, occasionally stand, and walk on varied surfaces. The job involves frequent bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, and balancing. Occasionally, pushing, pulling, kneeling, and crawling are required. The employee must use their hands and arms to reach, grasp, hold, and turn objects, as well as using fingers to pick, pinch, and feel objects. Effective communication is essential, with the ability to see, talk, and hear for interactions in person, electronically, by phone, or radio. Visual acuity, color distinction, and lens adjustment are necessary. Annual Emergency Power Test Inspections are performed a minimum of 15 times a year on the 3rd shift and require constant walking throughout the entire shift.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $45.00/hr.
