Position Summary: The Senior Project Engineer will be responsible for executing multiple projects on time and on budget and directing and/or leading other design professionals within their discipline. The Senior Project Engineer will also work with other design disciplines internally and externally to develop engineering solutions for PEC's clients. This position will be responsible for providing design deliverables for a variety of projects, while maintaining PEC's standard of excellence. This position utilizes BIM/CAD software, hand calculations, and computer-based calculations. In addition, this position will assist with the scheduling, planning, forecasting, resourcing, and management of technical activities to ensure project accuracy and quality. Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for project completion, in accordance with quality assurance policies, standards and project specifications Prepare and review engineering plans and specifications Assist in the preparation of project proposals, cost estimates, and feasibility studies Perform and/or directs engineering design, coordination with other design staff for construction documents and specification production, in compliance with building codes, construction administration, and development of reports/studies Serve as an advisor to the Project Manager, identifying and communicating any potential risk to the project in a timely fashion Perform and/or direct design computations by hand and by computer software. Specific experience and knowledge of pipe stress analysis required Lead field surveys to document existing conditions Prepare material take-offs including pipe, fittings, valves, as required to support the project Lead piping designers to perform layout rules specific to piping design including but not limited to distance between runs, position of welds, supports, valves and opening Develop P&IDs, general arrangements, piping specifications, equipment arrangement drawings Respond to piping technical inquiries from customers, vendors, and field personnel with minimal supervision. Review project contracts, schedules, and requirements to determine piping needs, deliverables, and deadlines Participate in project kick-off meetings, review contract requirements, and develop/maintain master document lists for the piping and layout engineering group Prepare inquiry and purchase specifications for piping fabrication, pipe supports, piping hardware, and special elements in piping systems Review isometrics and other piping-related mechanical drawings independently Evaluate P&IDs and equipment drawings against piping drawings Use experience, education, and judgement to make informed decisions. Retain knowledge and build on previous experiences, to increase capabilities in breadth and complexity Organize multiple projects and tasks and complete them in a timely manner, on schedule, and per PEC Standards. Oversee tasks that have been delegated to other engineers and support staff Effectively communicate and coordinate with the Design Team to complete design tasks on numerous projects Perform quality control reviews at appropriate milestones Mentor, train and develop less experienced staff Participate in business development activities, to include developing and maintaining relationships with clients Collaborate with the Project Manager and other project participants to provide technical assistance Ensure overall engineering project compliance with applicable Codes, standards and regulations Act as the first point of contact for clients and other stakeholders Monitor, manage and control projects to ensure that they are delivered on time, on budget and aligned with clients' requirements Travel from time- to-time, but not on a monthly basis. Travel may be for training, career fairs, conferences, meetings, or other work-related duties Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the company's discretion Special Knowledge, skills and abilities: Proficiency in B31.1 and B31.3 piping codes. Solid understanding of project execution processes; experience with gated project workflows Familiarity with project schedules, deliverables, and cross-functional collaboration. Knowledge of piping stress analysis, materials, and hardware. Ability to work independently and with others, with minimal supervision. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in preparing engineering plans, reports, and documentation Familiarity with local regulations, permitting processes, and design standards Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills Knowledge and skill in determining project requirements, setting project scope of work, determining design budgets, determining preliminary construction budgets, and review of contracts Strong work ethic Ability to travel to job sites occasionally Must comply with all DISA testing and be in good standing, comply with client safety standards. Education and Experience: Minimum of a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Degree from an accredited college is required Minimum seven (7) years of experience in engineering required Experience leading a small team is a plus but is not required Experience with computer aided calculation and modeling using industry accepted software. Specific skills and experience in pipe stress analysis required, experience with Caesar preferred Experience in industrial manufacturing and/or ethanol-biodiesel projects is preferred. Experience with codes and regulations, interpreting plans, and design discipline specific project components License and Certification: Professional Engineering (PE) license in the location of practice is required Work Environment: PEC values a healthy work environment, and we focus on working efficiently and collaboratively to ensure quality and productive work as well as quality time away from the office. Duties involved require moving materials that weigh up to 10 pounds on a regular basis and up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, mouse, calculator and similar machines. At times, bending, reaching, standing, and walking may be required.
