Overview

The Estimator supports the estimating team by preparing complete portions of an estimate for construction projects. Duties include quantity surveying, pricing, bid solicitation, working within the estimating system, compiling cost history, and preparing systems comparisons.

Responsibilities

Takes ownership of entire small estimates or components of large estimates and reviews all associated bid documentsApplies material unit prices or allowances and base labor productivities to the estimateAssists with bid document control, organizing, and archiving all information relating to the estimate for successful transfer to the project teamSolicits competitive pricing from subtrade partners and suppliers for pursuit supportReviews plans for consistency and accuracyDuties include quantity surveying, pricing, bid solicitation, working within the estimating system, compiling cost history, and preparing systems comparisonsResponsible for outlining clarifications and qualifications within an estimateIdentify indirect costs and General Condition items within estimateCollaborate with others on the estimating team and project management team to successfully bid jobsEstablish and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing

Qualifications

3-5 years relevant experience, preferably at a commercial GCSuccessfully managed estimating pursuits valued at up to $10 million in various delivery methodsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsExcellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlinesA Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management or related field and/or equivalent experienceGeneral construction knowledge; understands specifications, drawings, materials, and methods and proceduresFamiliar with different delivery methods: hard bid, guaranteed maximum price GMP), unit price, design-build, target prices, and cost reimbursableIntroductory knowledge of key principles involved in bid preparation, including quantity takeoff procedures and systems, subtrade partner procurement, interdepartmental functions, pricing, compensation models, expense philosophy and bid-closing proceduresAbility to establish and maintain working relationships with stakeholders including the ability to solicit subtrade partners and suppliersWorking knowledge of estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite, with a strong aptitude for adopting new technology
