The purpose of the class is to oversee the City's Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) programs. This class works under general supervision independently developing work methods and sequences.Minimum Requirements
- Requires extensive knowledge of the Occupational Safety & Health Act of 1970.
- Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelors degree in Safety, Environmental Safety, Industrial Hygiene or a related field from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a field directly related to occupational health and safety or public sector regulatory compliance
- A minimum of five (5) years of full-time equivalent experience in planning, implementing or evaluating s programs in occupational health and safety as well as lead and asbestos compliance or closely related experience.
- Requires a minimum of three (3) years of experience in planning, writing, creating, and implementing programs in occupational health and safety.
- Three (3) years experience working with municipal government, understanding of interdepartmental knowledge relationship experience preferred..
- Technical writing experience preferred.
- Asbestos Inspector-Management Planner certification is required and will be provided by the employer.
- Must possess an OSHA 30 certification in construction or general industry. Ongoing OSHA 30 certifications will be provided by the employer.
- Competent Personal Fall Protection is required and will be provided by the employer.
- OSHA train the trainer training (various topics) is required and will be provided by the employer.
- OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) 40-hour is required and will be provided by the employer.
- Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist preferred.
- This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the Citys current substance abuse policy.
- Must possess a valid drivers license and must have and maintain a satisfactory drivers record based on the City of Hamptons criteria.
- Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
Additional Requirements
- The incumbent may be considered essential personnel during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
