As a statewide specialist in the MDOT Structure Design Section, you will have the opportunity to use your knowledge of structural engineering to design the most complex bridge projects across the state. This position also serves as the project manager for projects and will provide you the opportunity to lead the team responsible for delivering projects designed by the Michigan Department of Transportations (MDOT) bridge consultant partners.

As the next statewide specialist, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing multiple consultants employed to perform the design of bridge improvements, replacement or new construction projects and ensure the work is done in conformance with design standards and practices while staying within contract schedule and budget.
  • Design structural details and develop contract plans and specifications for projects assigned by the Bridge Request For Action (RFA) Committee.
  • Preparing proposal materials, reviewing project-related documents and checking final plans.
  • Coordinating emergency bridge repairs with regions and contractors.
  • Assisting in the development of scope of work statements and budgets, as well as managing consultant contracts to prepare contract plans and specifications for the design of preventive maintenance, rehabilitation, repair and reconstruction of complex bridge and highway appurtenance projects.
  • Coordinating projects within MDOT, other state agencies and outside entities, as well as initiating the preparation of agreements with participating cities, counties and railroads.

Education
Possession of a bachelor of science degree in engineering.

Experience
Four years of professional experience equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including two years equivalent to a Transportation Engineer P11 or one year equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 12 or Transportation Engineer Licensed 12.
