Anticipated Bi-Weekly Salary:

$1,994.15

A Competitive Area Differential (CAD) additive in the amount of $478.40 will be added to the annual salary.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Assist in performing engineering work on multiple minor projects of low complexity. Assist Project Administrators and Contractor in solving problems that may arise during construction. Oversees projects for satisfactory job performance ensuring their compliance with Department policies and procedures related to Construction Engineering and Inspection.

Ensure that clear, accurate records are kept of assigned construction related activities. Communicate on a regular basis with Supervisors, Contractors and project personnel, both individually and in meetings to discuss work coordination, performance, and resolve project issues that may arise during construction. May be required to operate a Florida Department of Transportation vehicle.

Assist in preparing job related correspondence for contract modifications with Supervisor and office engineering staff. Assist in taking construction measurements and the preparation of weekly progress reports and monthly reports for final estimates. Assist in monitoring sampling and testing of materials used on projects and assist in certifying proper requirements are met and documented. Review daily reports and assist in preparing and transmitting Monthly Progress Estimates, Final Estimates and contract modifications to compensate for additional work and time. Help to ensure that assigned projects monthly and final payments submitted for a contract are correct and justified.

Meet with utility representatives related to the coordination of necessary relocation due to the construction work and compliance with permits and/or utility relocation schedules.

Review construction plans and provide comments on constructability prior to projects going to letting.

Update and revise various construction reports as required by the Resident Engineer/Operations Engineer.

Be responsible for public awareness and resolution of customer complaints at the direction of the Resident Engineer/Operations Engineer related to projects under construction.

Monitor Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) compliance, on-the-job training and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) to assure contract requirements are met by contractors. Promote safety standards of personnel and equipment at the Construction project site.

The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • the concepts, terminology, principles and techniques of drafting, surveying, architecture and/or other engineering related areas.
  • engineering quantitative techniques.

Skills in:

  • using engineering tools, equipment and/or instruments.
  • Using computer programs such as Word, Excel, and other Department mainframe programs.

Ability to:

  • to interpret engineering data.
  • to perform technical engineering tasks.
  • to solve problems relating to engineering.
  • to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • to communicate technical information effectively.
  • to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Licensure/Registration/Certification Requirements:

  • This position requires certification in QC Manager, Advanced Maintenance of Traffic, Final Estimates 1 and 2, and Level 2 of either earthwork, asphalt, or concrete, stormwater management inspector training. These certifications must be obtained by the end of the 2-year program.

Other Job-Related Requirements:

  • A valid Class "E" license is required.
  • The incumbent of this position is required to work with or around Department of Corrections inmates.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or its equivalent; or 2 years of construction experience

This position requires a valid Class (E) driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Departments Drivers Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following:

  1. three (3) or more moving violations in the past three (3) years that accumulate three (3) or more points per violation;
  2. any two (2) convictions of reckless driving in the past three (3) years;
  3. a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past three (3) years; and
  4. a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction, in the past four (4) years.

Your driving record will be reviewed and the status of your driver license confirmed.
