Job Duties

  • Assist HVAC Technicians in installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance tasks such as cleaning coils, changing belts, cleaning ducts and changing air filters.
  • Conduct leak searches, pump down a system, check refrigerant levels and assist with refrigerant recovery.
  • Assist HVAC Technicians with cutting and fitting piping, ducting, or insulation.
  • Transport tools and materials to and from the job site.
  • Prepare work areas by removing debris and ensuring safety measures are in place. Set up ladders and scaffolding in work areas.
  • Clean up after jobs, remove waste materials, and ensure the site is tidy and safe.
  • Clean, organize and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Conditions:

  • Work in extreme heat or cold is common
  • Work may be conducted in small or tight areas
  • Exposure to dust, fumes, refrigerants and cleaning agents
  • Lift and carry equipment or parts
  • Perform tasks that require physical stamina for extended periods of time (standing, kneeling, or climbing)
  • Climb ladders, scaffolding or crawl through narrow spaces
  • Perform tasks that may require bending, crouching or twisting
  • Hand eye coordination and dexterity is important, use of power tools
Qualifications

Education, Experience, Certifications:

  • High school diploma required or equivalent
  • Relatable work experience
  • Valid NC driver’s license required
  • EPA certification desired
  • Work on weekends or be on call as needed

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

  • Have a general knowledge of HVAC systems
  • Have a general knowledge of Line voltage and low voltage circuits
  • Be able to work on your feet for prolonged periods of time
  • Be able to do basic preventative maintenance tasks
  • Be able to move heavy equipment and motors for repairs and maintenance
  • Be able to assist other departments as needed
  • Be able to receive assigned tasks and complete them without direct supervision in a timely manner
  • Be able to work as part of a team to accomplish tasks
  • Be able to communicate clearly with faculty, staff, students and parents around job duties
