Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Engage in all phases of new product development; concept development/selection, documentation, design, prototype, test, verification, supplier interaction, manufacturing introduction, and service support
  • Work independently and possess a level of functional expertise necessary to influence and execute the technical and project lifecycle for a sub-system or module.
  • Lead design & technical inputs for the program/project and translate system requirements and patient/customer needs into quality technical solutions.
  • Work from product specifications and requirements to develop component and assembly geometry, specify materials, and establish acceptable performance standards
  • Use CAD software (CREO) to produce design artifacts; 3D models, 2D detailed drawings.
  • Use simulation software (ANSYS) for FEA, CFD, Suspended Mass to produce thermal/structural models/simulations and analyses
  • Generate high-quality, accurate Bills of Materials and component/assembly specifications
  • Prepare and present detailed design review packages demonstrating key performance, reliability, safety, and manufacturability goals are met and align with internal and external customer expectations
  • Select proper and cost-effective manufacturing techniques; casting, thermoforming, injection molding, welding, machining, sheet-metal fab, additive-manufacturing, electrical cables, adhesives, bolted-joint design
  • Direct the construction and testing of prototype and pilot products; conduct testing and analyze results
  • Maintain a high degree of understanding of Imaging Detector technologies, manufacturing, and the skills to lead development and change management.
  • Provide mentoring to junior engineers

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in mechanical design or project engineering
  • Experience in 3D CAD modeling and 2D drawing creation and GD&T review
  • Knowledge of testing and verification of mechanical structures, mechanisms, cables, and tooling design
  • Understanding of material properties, manufacturing processes, and final product assembly
  • Experience managing shared documentation in PDM/MWS system
  • Compliance experience in a quality management system, preferably Design Controls for Medical Devices
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, execute, and complete projects

Desired Characteristics

  • Master's degree in a technology field
  • Knowledge of industry and/or academic practices and standards related to thermal and/or structural analysis, finite element analysis, and/or structural verification testing.
  • Expertise in design, analysis and simulation (ANSYS)
  • Demonstrated project leadership and influencing skills
  • Experience in working in regulated industry under quality management system, preferably medical industry
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification
  • Ability to meet aggressive reliability, performance, cost, serviceability, and delivery targets
