Position Summary

The Assistant Superintendent for Teaching, Learning, and Innovation serves as a visionary academic leader, supporting the advancement of teaching, curriculum, innovation, and scholar achievement across all grade levels. This leader ensures alignment of all instructional programming with Ohio's Learning Standards and the district's commitment to equity, academic excellence, and college and career readiness.

Qualifications, Experience, and Knowledge

  • Professional Educator License with appropriate Ohio endorsement (Superintendent or Principal preferred).
  • Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field (Doctorate preferred).
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in education, including 3 years of administrative leadership.
  • Demonstrated success in instructional leadership, professional development, and scholar achievement.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of PreK-12 curriculum, instruction, and assessments.
  • Supervise and support directors, coordinators and specialists in curriculum.
  • Collaborate with building leaders to support school improvement plans and instructional priorities.
  • Lead the district's professional development strategy, including Professional Development Days and new staff orientation.
  • Coordinate summer school, new course proposals, and instructional material adoption.
  • Guide data analysis practices to inform instruction, monitor progress, and close achievement gaps.
  • Chair the Curriculum Leadership Team and oversee the Instructional Coaching program. Develops, implements, and evaluates curriculum for all K-12 courses. Recommends course additions and grade placements. Verifies graduation requirements
  • Support innovation and instructional technology integration to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Coordinate grant applications, career pathways, and community partnerships for scholar opportunities.
  • Facilitate strategic planning aligned with the district's mission, vision, and goals.
  • Lead the district calendar committee, academic presentation schedule, and support state reporting.
  • Helps manage the instructional program. Promotes academic excellence in a nurturing environment. Directs the development, assessment, and revision of curriculum guides and courses of study. Manages the planning process to select instructional materials and equipment.
  • Keeps current with the K-12 courses of study, the district's scope and sequence framework, and state standards/guidelines. Promotes the continuity of the instructional program. Provides insights about the progression of student skills and key contributions made by staff at each level.
  • Administers the board-approved budget for assigned areas of responsibility. Approves the purchase of supplies and equipment. Ensure that program resources are equitably apportioned.
  • Represent the Superintendent at meetings and events as assigned.
  • Organizes curriculum for summer school intervention programs.
  • Upholds the student conduct code. Maintains high expectations for behavior and performance. Helps with pupil management issues. Prepares student conduct reports/discipline recommendations
  • Upholds applicable local, state, and federal laws. Maintains effective relationships with community services (e.g., legal, health, welfare, etc.). Serves as a school contact for service providers

  • Capacity to manage multiple initiatives, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively.
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication with various stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Ohio Department of Education guidelines and reporting requirements.

Performance Evaluation and Work Conditions

Performance is evaluated annually by the Superintendent based on established goals and district leadership expectations. The position requires occasional evening and weekend work, travel between school sites, and the ability to handle periods of high demand.
