Ag Maintenance Mechanic and Livestock Caretaker (Animal Science)

The NDSU Department of Animal Sciences is seeking a dedicated individual to fill the role of Ag Maintenance Mechanic and Livestock Caretaker. In this dynamic position, you will play a vital role in providing essential maintenance and operation of ag machinery as well as assisting in the care of livestock, ensuring the smooth operation of the farm units.
Mechanic Equipment Repair and Maintenance.
- Carried out scheduled services and maintenance on trailers, tractors and other motorized vehicles
- Repair and maintain all field and farm equipment
- Assist with equipment repair at Animal Science Research Units, as needed
Equipment Operator
- Assist in all phases of field and crop production including spring tillage, seeding and haying procedures, harvesting, fall tillage and manure spreading
Infrastructure Repair and Maintenance
- Assist in carpentry, fencing, and fabricating projects specific to farm units and research products
Assist Animal Science Units with Animal Care and Research Activities
- Assist, as needed with livestock daily feeding, handling, calving and data collection
- General Husbandry
Core Competencies
- Ability to demonstrate experience with different type of welding, such as arc and wire feed welding
- Experience with agriculture equipment repair and maintenance
- Experience with agriculture equipment operation associated with livestock and forage production
- Comfortable working with livestock
- Experience in Microsoft Office (especially word and excel) maintaining vehicle maintenance records
Hiring Range: $40,000-$54,375 + DOE
Pay is based on several factors, including budget, labor market, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and/or certification and other business considerations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- Must hold a valid driver's license
- Proven experience with agriculture equipment repair and maintenance
- Proven experience with agriculture equipment operation associated with livestock and forage production
- Proven experience with beef cattle care including daily feeding and handling
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in agriculture, diesel repair or equivalent field experience
- Commercial Driver's License
- Artificial Insemination (AI), BQA, or relevant certification
- Experience with beef cattle care, calving, and treatment
