SUMMARY:
The Lucas County Engineers Office is hiring for an Ohio based Civil Engineer with bridge/structural experience for our office located in Holland, Ohio. The ideal candidate will be an experienced, self-motivated Professional Engineer with a strong technical background.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
Manages, determines and implements the County Bridge and Culvert Repair and Replacement program including local, state and federally funded projects:
1. Oversees bridge condition inspection program. Manages and updates bridge inventory. Manages and conducts annual bridge field inspections. Reviews, finalizes and approves inspection reports in Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) AssetWise Program.
2. Performs stamps/signs load ratings on county bridges using the AASHTO Bridge Rating (BrR) software on a variety of different structure types. Coordinates and assigns bridge load ratings to consultants when needed. Ensures the load rating deadlines set by ODOT and FHWA are met. Recommends bridge repairs needed.
3. Performs stamps/signs bridge designs in compliance with FHWA and ODOT requirements, including all facts of the Federal Aide, Local Public Agency program.
4. Performs calculations for hydrologic/hydraulic designs.
QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS: An example of acceptable qualifications:
Completion of a Civil Engineering degree accredited by EAC/ABET; or completion of a four-year Civil Engineering degree granted outside of the United States that is evaluated for NCEES credentials as meeting the NCEES Engineering Education Standard; or completion of a four-year Engineering Technology degree accredited by ETAC/ABET; or completion of a Masters Engineering degree program accredited by EAC/ABET; and
Must be a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Ohio; or must hold a Valid Engineer Intern (E.I.) license issued in the State of Ohio, with ability to obtain Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the State of Ohio within two (2) years after appointment to position.
Two (2) years engineering or technician experience to include field work and/or inspection preferred. Working with governmental regulations preferred.
Must possess a valid drivers license with driving privileges in the State of Ohio and insurable driving record.
Required to successfully complete ODOT Level I and Level 2 Bridge Inspection Course or NHI Bridge Inspection course as assigned within two (2) years after appointment to position.

Operation of motor vehicle, and basic office equipment such as computer, copier, printer, and calculator. Must be able to use the following technology: Computer aided design (CAD) software; Bridge Load rating software (BrR); Email (Outlook); Internet Browser; and Microsoft Office Suite (word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations)

Must be able to commute to Holland, Ohio for in-person work. Flex time and alternate work schedules may be available. Work from home privileges may be granted one day per week upon request. Must be eligible to work in the United States. VISA sponsorship is not available with this position.
Work is primarily performed in a standard office setting; however, some field work is required. Field work will require travel to field sites, occasional exposure to light lifting, and ability to access and maneuver around the field sites.
