POSITION: Carpenter - Grade 6
LOCATION: Plant Operations/District wide
WORK YEAR: Year Round: 7:00 am - 3:00 pm (Monday - Friday)
STARTING: ASAP
REPORTS TO: Director of Plant Operations
SALARY: $28.93/hr. after 90 day probationary period (during probationary period, the wage rate will be 5% less) Benefits per collective bargaining agreement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least three (3) years experience working in carpentry field, with a thorough knowledge of carpentry procedures, methods and use of equipment (hand tools and floor/bench equipment). Experience working in an academic (school district or college/university) or similar institutional environment is preferred but not required.
- High School graduate degree, or equivalent.
- Door hardware training selected by and paid for by the school district during his/her regularly scheduled workday.
- Vocational training in carpentry, or equivalent experience obtained through years working in the carpentry trade.
- Ability to relate well verbally and in writing with school district staff, students and the public.
- A valid New Hampshire Driver's License.
- Working (journeyman) knowledge of rules, codes and regulations pertaining to minimum carpentry standards. Basic knowledge of other phases of construction (Plumbing, HVAC, Electrical, etc.), e.g., in knowing how these trades interface with the carpentry trade in renovation and construction projects. Maintain current industry-standard knowledge of techniques, new materials and equipment in the repair and maintenance of carpentry-related systems and components.
- Physical ability to perform assigned duties including the ability to walk, bend and stand for long periods of time and in all kinds of weather; climb stairs & ladders & scaffolds, lift and carry objects weighing up to one hundred (100) pounds, with assistance.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as duties dictate.
- Capability to understand basic schematics, diagrams, engineering drawings and operating and maintenance manuals, to complete maintenance & repair actions.
SUMMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is responsible for performing all rough and finish carpentry involving construction, maintenance, repair and alteration of school district buildings, furniture, fixtures and equipment.
- Perform all rough and finish carpentry involving construction, maintenance, repair and alteration of school district buildings, structural systems & components, furniture, fixtures and equipment; design and install associated components. Construct and repair walls, ceilings, partitions, shelves, platforms, cabinets, furniture, trim, and other related articles. Repair doors, windows and associated hardware. Resurface desks, tables, countertops, and other furniture. Repair floors and stairways. Perform concrete slab preparation and pouring. Perform key duplication and cylinder replacement. (Note: Management reserves the right to order replacement keys, understanding that only bargaining unit employees shall pickup and deliver keys to the appropriate facility and all cylinders shall be delivered to the Carpenter or to a Tradesman for installation.)
- Follow all safety rules & regulations, industry-standard practices and federal/ state/city/school district policies, as outlined in the NSD Custodial Handbook or provided in training and orientation.
- Maintain assigned storage and work spaces in a secure, neat and orderly condition. Clean up any debris generated while completing work orders. Maintain all assigned equipment, conducting any required preventive maintenance.
- Provide labor pool for movement of school district property and snow removal.
- Complete all required administrative work in a complete and timely fashion. Submit work requests for building discrepancies noted while responding to approved work orders.
- Perform other duties related to the primary scope of this position description.
