We have an exciting opportunity in our Temporary Services department for skilled Temporary Services Electricians of all journeyperson levels (J1-J4). This position is located in Norfolk, Virginia, and the day shift runs from 6:00 AM to 2:45 PM.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Temporary Services Electrician, you'll be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of temporary electrical services on board ships and piers. Your specific duties will vary based on your journeyperson level, but will generally include:

  • Adhering to strict electrical safety protocols and good work practices.
  • Installing and maintaining temporary service equipment and cabling according to NAVSEA Standard Items, OSHA standards, NSTM's, and other regulatory body regulations.
  • Utilizing various electrical test equipment such as VOMs, Meggers, Amp and Phase rotation meters for troubleshooting, testing, and circuit analysis.
  • Building, maintaining, troubleshooting, and diagnosing electrical problems on temporary service electrical equipment down to the component level.
  • Setting up Temporary Electrical Service Generators and Power Mods in compliance with NASSCO and Government requirements.
  • Reading and interpreting electrical schematics.
  • Working effectively with a team and providing guidance to junior electricians (for J3 and J4).
  • Drafting and submitting required reports, including Condition Found Reports.
  • Navigating ship compartments and understanding ship nomenclature.

Journeyperson Levels and Requirements:

JOURNEYPERSON 4 (Temporary Services Electrician)

  • Superior understanding of electrical safety and good work practices.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of overseeing a small team.
  • Able to conduct advanced training for J1-J3 Trade personnel.
  • Proficient in applicable NAVSEA Standard Items (009-08, 009-28, 009-74), OSHA standards, NSTM's, and regulatory body regulations.
  • Proficient at reading/interpreting electrical schematics, planning, laying out, and installing Temporary Service equipment and cabling IAW NSI.
  • Proficient at troubleshooting, testing, and circuit analysis using VOMs, Meggers, Amp, and Phase rotation meters.
  • Proficient at building, maintaining, troubleshooting, and diagnosing electrical problems to component level on Temporary Service Electrical equipment.
  • Proficient in setting up Temporary Electrical Service Generators and Power Mods IAW all NASSCO and Government requirements.
  • Able to draft and submit required reports and Condition Found Reports.

JOURNEYPERSON 3 (Temporary Services Electrician)

  • Excellent understanding of electrical safety and good work practices.
  • Performs job in appropriate time frame without on-site supervision.
  • Good interpersonal skills, capable of guiding and training junior Temporary Service electricians with minimum supervision.
  • Knowledge of applicable NAVSEA Standard Item, OSHA standards, and regulatory body regulations.
  • Able to collect viable information for required condition reports and assist J-4 Trade in collection of information for Condition Found Reports.
  • Able to identify defects in workmanship and appropriate corrective actions.
  • Proficient at reading and interpreting schematics with minimum guidance.
  • Capable of laying-out and installing Temporary Service Electrical equipment and cabling with minimum guidance.
  • Good fundamental understanding of using electrical test equipment for troubleshooting, testing, and circuit analysis.
  • Well-defined knowledge of building, maintaining, troubleshooting, and diagnosing electrical problems to component level.
  • Fundamental understanding of setting up Temporary Electrical Service Generators and Power Mods.
  • Working knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items 009-08, 009-28, and 009-74.
  • Excellent knowledge of ship's compartmental layout and proper use of basic hand-tools.

JOURNEYPERSON 2 (Temporary Services Electrician)

  • Good understanding of electrical safety and good work practices.
  • Performs job in appropriate time frame with some supervision.
  • Able to provide guidance to J1 Trade when assigned.
  • Familiar with applicable NAVSEA Standard Items, OSHA standards, and regulatory body regulations.
  • Fundamental knowledge of reading and interpreting electrical schematics with guidance.
  • Capable of laying-out and installing equipment and cabling with guidance.
  • Capable of assisting in building, maintaining, troubleshooting, and diagnosing electrical problems to component level.
  • Capable of assisting in setting up Temporary Electrical Service Generators and Power Mods.
  • Basic understanding of NAVSEA Standard Items 009-08, 009-28, and 009-74.
  • Working knowledge of ship's compartmental layout.
  • Possesses all necessary hand-tools and satisfactory working knowledge of their correct use.

JOURNEYPERSON 1 (Temporary Services Electrician)

  • Able to identify safety hazards.
  • Able to read and understand a marine chemist certificate.
  • Performs job within appropriate time frame with on-site supervision.
  • Ensures job site is left in a safe and clean condition.
  • Able to work in all required locations (tanks, voids, cofferdams, elevated locations).
  • Knows what Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to use and when.
  • Able to navigate a ship and understand compartment designation.
  • Must have Rapid Gate access or be eligible to obtain.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills; proficient in English.
  • Understanding of electrical safety and good work practices.
  • Able to follow instructions from supervisor/lead electricians.
  • Able to install temporary services using correct wire and breaker sizes with guidance.
  • Knows how to care for tools and equipment and has working knowledge of their correct use.
  • Must have current WAF training.
