This is skilled electrical work at the journeyman level in the alteration, installation, maintenance and repair of standardized electrical systems, fixtures, and equipment. Employees in this position are expected to be able to perform any and all work tasks and comply with any work schedules, attendance, or duty requirements which may be established by city or department rules, or applicable union contracts. Work also involves diagnosing and repairing electrical fixtures and other electrical equipment, replacing broken or faulty electrical equipment on poles, disconnecting hot wires using rubber gloves, the safe and efficient operation of trucks and equipment used in the trade. An employee in this class must exercise exceptional care in order to protect their own safety as well as that of other employees.

Salary: $25.15 - $35.08 Hourly

To Qualify

Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:

  • Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Certificate of Competency as a Journeyman Electrician issued by the Pinellas County Construction Licensing Board or obtain the certificate within five and one half (5 ) months of appointment to the position.
  • HPossess and maintain a valid Driver License.
  • Have completed an electrical apprentice program with considerable experience as a journeyman electrician.
  • Have at least four (4) years of experience in the construction trade.
  • Have considerable knowledge of the approved methods, materials, tools, equipment, and principles of electrical theory used in electrical installation and maintenance work.
  • Have considerable knowledge of City, State and National electrical codes.
  • Be able to follow written and oral instructions and to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and diagrams.
  • Be able to diagnose and repair electrical fixtures and equipment.
  • Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, you must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster.

Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:

  • Are skilled in the operation of a computer, laptop and/or tablet including experience with computer software programs such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel).
