Requirements

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Evaluate and update existing safety policies to ensure continued effectiveness
  • Partner with human resources to develop workplace safety recognition programs as well as, companywide safety and wellness initiatives
  • Manage health and safety training programs for all levels of operation - New Hire Orientation, Forklift, First Aid/CPR, AED and BBP, Fall Protection, LOTO, Emergency Planning and more
  • Lead accident investigation, ensure proper reporting, documentation, and policy updates as well as safety inspections
  • Assist in the development of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) programs and recommend such equipment as necessary to meet the needs of the department
  • Work with property and casualty insurance providers to reduce risk through loss mitigation.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation and best practices.
  • Monitor compliance with the organization's health and safety policies and procedures and formally advise managers on areas of non-compliance
  • Maintain and implement inspection policies and procedures, as well as a schedule of routine inspections for safety requirements
  • Develop and maintain all required OSHA written management processes to include recordkeeping requirements per local, state and federal regulations, including OSHA 300 logs
  • Implement company-wide accident prevention and injury reporting process
  • Ensure that all accidents and near misses are reported and investigated in accordance with the organization's policies
  • Partner with human resources on accident investigations and any corrective action
  • Liaise with key external groups and individuals, such as local authorities and specialist groups on health and safety issues (MEMIC, local fire department, law enforcement, etc.)
  • Ensure procedures are in place to meet all facility-related legal and regulatory obligations - including security, fire safety, structural integrity, and accessibility - with currently available resources
  • Responsible to ensure necessary employee annual base line testing is completed such as hearing tests, PPE physicals.
  • Encourage and facilitate Team Member input to drive continuous improvement
  • Manage mill security contractor and activities
  • Manage fleet safety
  • Ensure effective and consistent quarterly safety meetings
  • Assist with execution of environmental compliance programs (air license, water permit, SPCC, stormwater, universal waste, municipal waste treatment plant, etc).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications/Required Skills:

  • Independent application and extensive knowledge of environmental worker health and safety regulations and policies
  • Manufacturing/production or construction experience
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly as it relates Team Member training
  • Ability to collaborate with a team of subject matter experts in each of their areas to interpret policies and practices regarding EH&S that impact the entire organization
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
  • CPR /First aid / AED certified or able to become certified

Education, Experience and Licensing Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field, such as engineering or industrial hygiene required
  • Five years of relevant experience preferred
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and requirements
  • Working knowledge of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA - 660) regulations
