Position Summary:

The Senior Audiovisual (AV) Design Engineer to lead the design and engineering of complex, high-impact audiovisual systems. This role is central to our project delivery process, collaborating closely with clients, sales teams, and project managers to translate user needs into fully realized technical solutions.

As a key technical expert, you will drive system planning, design documentation, cost estimation, and solution consulting. You’ll also support the sales process by developing proposals, drawings, and specifications that clearly articulate the scope and value of each project. Success in this role requires deep technical knowledge of AV systems, strong architectural and facility coordination experience, and the ability to present ideas clearly and confidently.

Requirements:
  • Associate degree in technology or equivalent experience required.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in AV/IT design and engineering.
  • Proficient in Windows and Apple software.
  • Advanced experience producing drawings and requirement documentation for architectural design packages.
  • Ability to communicate drawing needs to CAD staff.
  • Proficient in testing and commissioning AV/IT systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of hand tools and test equipment in the AV/IT field.
  • Familiar with International Building Code (IBC) and National Electric Code (NEC).
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Proven ability to solve complex problems and manage multiple projects.
  • Capable of mentoring and guiding engineering staff in developing design and process skills.

Certifications:

  • Must have AVIXA CTS-D certification.
  • AVIXA ANP or CompTIA Network+ certification (required within 1 year of hire).
  • BICSI RCDD certification preferred.
  • Certifications such as CTS-I, or other manufacturer-specific credentials (e.g., Crestron, Extron, Biamp) are highly desirable.
Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with project teams to prospect, qualify, and close design-build and support jobs.
  • Conduct needs analysis to interpret customer requirements for team members.
  • Prepare cost estimates, considering labor, equipment, materials, and schedule.
  • Develop detailed drawings and specifications for AV/IT systems.
  • Lead value engineering efforts to align system performance with client budgets.
  • Oversee and review associate engineers’ designs for accuracy and consistency.
  • Innovate processes to increase design efficiency and reusability.
  • Assist with bid reviews, take-offs, and submittals on competitive projects.
  • Lead project testing, commissioning, and final acceptance approval from clients.
  • Provide technical support throughout project lifecycles.
  • Train and mentor new hires and engineering staff, fostering professional growth.
  • Designate tasks and schedules for local engineering staff as needed.
  • Adhere to OSHA standards and participate in safety meetings.
