About the Role:
As a Senior Port Electrical Engineer in DEA's Energy Business Unit, you will be responsible for leading projects focused on expansion, modernization, efficiency improvement, and decarbonization of public and private cargo terminal projects in the Pacific Northwest. You will lead the development and review of electrical designs, including plans, drawings, cost estimates, schedules, reports, and technical specifications, as well as proposal development. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable and efficient energy solutions while ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements.
The location for this hybrid-friendly position is flexible with a preference for individuals who are based near one of DEA's Puget Sound region offices. Fully remote may be considered depending on circumstances. Some travel for project execution will be required.
Responsibilities:
Exemplify DEA's Cultural Drivers internally and externally.
Take the lead in developing electrical design drawings, technical memoranda, specifications, and design reports to support the successful execution of infrastructure projects.
Support or lead proposal development by crafting technical approaches and defining the scope and level of effort for electrical engineering components.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in electrical engineering.
10+ years of experience in electrical design specific to ports and other marine facilities
Ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams
Registered Professional Engineer
Proficient in applying relevant electrical codes and standards such as NEC, NFPA, NEMA, IEC, NAVFAC, and others commonly used in maritime facility design.
Experienced in designing electrical systems for corrosive marine environments, with a solid understanding of corrosion-related challenges and mitigation strategies.
Skilled in the design of both medium- and low-voltage electrical distribution systems and supporting infrastructure for container terminals, marine facilities, urban waterfronts, and transportation hubs.
Knowledgeable in the design of grounding and lightning protection systems for industrial applications, including container terminals.
Experienced in developing lighting systems for industrial environments such as ports and container handling facilities.
Proficient in the design of shore power (cold ironing) systems and other vessel electrical service connections at both medium and low voltage levels.
Familiar with industry-standard electrical design and analysis tools, including:
SKM Power Tools for electrical system analysis
ETAP for power system modeling and simulations
AGi32 for lighting design and analysis
AutoCAD or MicroStation for drafting and design documentation
Bluebeam or similar PDF tools for digital drawing review and markup
Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop technical teams
Strong leadership, written and oral communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
15+ years' experience in facilities, buildings, aviation, transit, industrial, and/or marine project design (preferably with public agencies).
Previous experience working for or with consulting engineering firms.
Previous experience working with local public agencies such as the Port of Seattle, Port of Tacoma, City of Seattle, Sound Transit, etc.
PMP, MBA, similar certification, or advanced degree.
Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering
