Electrician II - Water Production

The City of Norfolk's Department of Utilities is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Electrician II. This person installs and maintains lighting and electrical systems. Fills special project requirements and new construction. Assists with the management of projects. Performs other duties as needed.

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Troubleshoots various electrical apparatus using different types of meters, determines replacement parts needed, orders and installs them.
  • Installs and maintains electrical and control systems by installing conduit, wiring and devices as needed and troubleshooting and repairing as needed.
  • Maintains lighting systems by troubleshooting various types of light fixtures, replacing lamps, ballasts, batteries, photocells or the entire light fixture as needed. Cleans and/or replaces lenes as needed.
  • Assists with the management of projects by planning installation, gathering information, and procuring materials.
  • Conducts preventative maintenance as directed on switchgear, motor control centers and other electrical apparatus.

Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.

Two years experience as an Electrician.Valid Driver's License

State Journeyman Electrician's License required within one (1) year of employment.

Work Hours: Monday - Friday; 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus.

This position is designated as 'Essential' personnel and you may be required to work extended, rotating, after hours, night, weekends, and/or holidays in response to emergencies and severe weather.
