Position Summary
RSI is recruiting for a Water Treatment System Operator who will perform duties within requirements set forth by LM, state, federal and tribal regulations and defined by the Operations & Maintenance manuals for specific treatment systems. Responsibilities include the operations and maintenance of a water treatment facility which features electrocoagulation and closed-circuit reverse osmosis treatment technologies.

Hiring Range: $28.84 - $33.65 per hour. ($60,000.00 to $70,000.00 annually) (The anticipated starting salary is based on the posted minimum requirements for this position. The offered salary will be based upon the selected applicants education, training, and experience.)
This position is required to travel 70% of the time.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Working independently to manage and maintain system operations within all safety rules, and performs work in a safe manner.
- Understanding of chemical and metals precipitation, pH, and flocculation as it relates to water treatment systems.
- Perform and document routine system checks to maintain system operation.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of treatment chemicals and waste generated from the treatment process, after competency training.

- Complete data records and reports consistent with local, county, state, federal and tribal requirements.
- Employee is expected to understand baseline operating conditions and recognize and communicate deviations and causation of deviations.
- Facility maintenance of interior and exterior components which are integral to the efficient operation of the treatment processes including: consumable part replacements, calibrations, component cleaning, modifications, and repairs on all facility equipment in accordance with provided procedures and basic or specialized tools.
- Assists or leads major maintenance and coordinates with stakeholders, subcontractors, or vendors as necessary to schedule and perform work.
- Identifies facility and operational needs and provides information on supply requirements. Estimates quantities of required consumables required, with knowledge of component or chemical storage requirements.
- Operating the SCADA system to monitor treatment processes and maximize the treatment efficiency potential.
- Responding to upset conditions and making necessary adjustments to continue safe operation of the facility. Employee may need to response to emergency calls/upset conditions on-site or remotely after hours.
- Complies with all DOE/federal, local, state, tribal and federal requirements for waste disposal requirements.
- Protect the facility and infrastructure by responding promptly to system upset conditions.
- The employee may be required to collect and ship water samples to ensure compliance with discharge permits, as necessary.
- Complete contract required trainings in a reasonable timeframe and ensure that water treatment specific trainings and certifications do not lapse.
- Knowledge of work-related safety practices, OSHA and environmental rules and regulations
- Assist in updating, revising, and maintaining Operations and Maintenance manuals and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Years of Relevant Experience
- High School Diploma.
- 3 years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of water treatment technical processes, procedures and operations with proof of specialized training and/or certifications in water treatment.
- 3-5 years of relative experience in Municipal, Federal or Industrial water treatment applications.
- HAZWOPER 40.
- Electrical background, as it relates to water treatment.
- Water sampling experience.
- New Mexico Level 2 operator certifications (or equivalent).
- Operational knowledge of SCADA systems to monitor and operate plant on-site and remotely.
- Operational and maintenance knowledge of Reverse Osmosis water treatment systems.
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid Drivers License.
- New Mexico Water and Wastewater Operator Certification Level 1 operator certifications with intent and ability to obtain Level 2 certifications within 180 days of hiring date.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Level of language skills, mathematical skills, mechanical skills, analytical skills, communication skills, reasoning ability and computer skills necessary to perform essential functions of the job.
- Knowledge and understanding of water treatment facility principles, concepts and operation and maintenance techniques.
- Ability to work varying shifts, in different weather conditions and in different locations as needed.
- Ability to safely perform tasks with limited to no supervision.
- Strong safety background.
- Ability to safely handle chemicals for water treatment.
- Ability to interpret Operations & Maintenance manuals and procedures for troubleshooting equipment, pumps and piping systems.
- Ability to receive and pass company training for position requirements (LOTO, First Aid, CPR, Fire Extinguisher, 4-gas monitors, etc).
- Familiar with Microsoft Office 10. Knowledge and ability to work with basic hand tools (hammers, wrenches, pliers)

Essential Physical Requirements
Very Heavy: Work involves moving objects by exerting 100 pounds of force occasionally or 50 pounds of force constantly. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for heavy work.
