The Estimator I is responsible for the timely estimating of Fire Life Safety Projects. You will be responsible for evaluating bid specifications and drawings and completing project site visits to compile an accurate and thorough estimate. The Estimator I completes job take offs, using their knowledge of building code and regulatory standards to draft both the estimate and proposal to present to a customer. You will be responsible for gathering all blueprints, specifications, and related documents for the project. The Estimator I plays a vital role in contributing to the overall profitability of a project. In order to succeed in this role, you will need to efficiently execute bid specification review and document submission, proposal writing, and project layouts.

Essential Functions:

  • Understands how to read and interpret drawings for project estimating.
  • Reviews project bid specifications to evaluate estimating requirements and expectations and develops and identifies any RFI’s and clarifications, completing and submitting any project kick off forms required.
  • Performs facility site visits to review project layout and to gain a deeper understanding of the project requirements and obtains any additional information needed to complete an accurate bid/estimate.
  • Completes accurate and profitable estimates as needed and drafts well written proposals that are presented to the customer and are able to be translated into a project plan when awarded.
  • Understands the construction environment, is proactive at identifying items that can and may impact the project and translates understanding into a detailed and accurate estimate.
  • Partners with Project Managers, Account Executives and/or Department Managers when needed for estimating direction.
  • Builds and develops relationships with key vendors, contractors, and consultants.

Position Requirements:

  • 1-2 years in Construction and/or low voltage installation
  • Knowledge and ability to use computers and related technology efficiently
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe PDF, etc.
  • High school diploma (or equivalent), a valid California Driver License, and proof of auto insurance.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance, overtime (if needed)

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Ability to drive for 2+ hours in a work shift/day, daily
  • Ability to walk, bend, stoop, hear, and speak, daily
  • Stand or Sit for long periods (4+ hours), daily
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments, under all temperature variations
  • Ability to make repetitive movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers, daily
  • Work environment may be construction sites, commercial properties, and/or high-rise buildings
  • Move/Transport items weighing 20+ pounds, occasionally

Work Schedule:

  • Monday - Friday
  • 8:00am - 5:00pm
