Construction Project Manager

The Mount Vernon Ladies' Association, dedicated to preserving and sharing the legacy of George Washington's estate, seeks a dynamic and experienced Construction Project Manager. Reporting directly to the President's Office, the Construction Project Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing the planning, execution, and documentation of complex, time-sensitive architecture and engineering projects that impact both historic and modern resources. This role requires close collaboration with Preservation, Operations, and Maintenance teams, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of projects that align with Mount Vernon's mission to preserve its historic integrity while enhancing operational functionality.

The Construction Project Manager will spearhead high-profile infrastructure and construction initiatives, such as fire detection and suppression system installations, building stabilization, HVAC and electrical upgrades, drainage improvements, security barrier installations, exhibition construction, and storage enhancements. This position demands exceptional leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to preserving Mount Vernon's historic legacy, while aligning project outcomes with the strategic vision of the President's Office.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Project Leadership and Management: Lead the planning, execution, and completion of complex, multi-million-dollar infrastructure and construction projects, ensuring timely delivery within scope and budget.
  • Pre-Project Planning: Collaborate with the President's Office and key stakeholders to define project objectives, scope, and deliverables during the pre-planning phase.
  • Budget and Resource Management: Prepare, monitor, and document project budgets, track expenditures, and verify deliverables to ensure fiscal responsibility and alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare and disseminate project documentation, including construction drawings, procedures, proposals, progress reports, and presentations. Obtain and circulate contractor deliverables as needed.
  • Coordination and Communication: Organize and facilitate project meetings, prepare agendas, compile and distribute meeting minutes, and manage all related correspondence. Maintain comprehensive project files.
  • Schedule and Risk Management: Develop, update, and monitor project schedules, action item lists, risk logs, decision logs, and service requests to ensure proactive project oversight.
  • On-Site Supervision: Oversee on-site work as assigned, ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and historic preservation guidelines.
  • Technical Analysis and Modeling: Review and audit 3D digital models using Autodesk Revit, perform clash detection and visual walkthroughs with Navisworks Manage, and conduct quantity extraction from 3D models. Create 4D schedule simulations using Navisworks Manage.
  • Photo Documentation: Compile and manage photographic documentation of projects, including populating metadata in photographic files for archival purposes.
  • Archival Responsibilities: Ensure all project-related materials and deliverables are properly archived upon project completion.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor and guide project team members, fostering a collaborative and results-driven environment.
  • Strategic Alignment: Ensure all projects align with the strategic goals and vision of the President's Office, maintaining clear communication with senior leadership.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as assigned to support the mission of the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 7 years of experience in construction management, with at least 5 years managing medium- to large-scale, multi-million-dollar projects.
  • Experience in historic preservation projects or working with historic resources is strongly preferred.
  • Note: The degree requirement may be waived for candidates with a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent, combined with extensive experience (10+ years) in construction management and historic preservation.
