About the Role:

As a Senior Power Design Engineer at Airspan, you will play a key role in designing the power architecture and delivery systems for our advanced wireless communication products. You will be responsible for developing robust, high-efficiency AC/DC and DC/DC power supply solutions that meet the demanding performance, reliability, and compliance requirements of modern radio units. This role is centered on delivering highly efficient, robust, and reliable power solutions for outdoor telecom equipment. You will be responsible for maximizing power conversion efficiency, ensuring thermal and electrical reliability, and implementing protection mechanisms that meet the stringent demands of telecom environments. The power systems you design will need to perform consistently under harsh conditions while complying with global regulatory and safety standards. Your work will be critical to the performance and dependability of Airspan's next-generation 5G and Open RAN products.

Airspan's hardware portfolio is built for scalability and reliability, with over 50,000 5G radios and 700,000 4G radios deployed in live networks worldwide. Our solutions meet the demands of public and private networks with unmatched efficiency and performance, spanning dense urban deployments and expansive industrial applications. With proven success in Open RAN interoperability and conformance testing, Airspan continues to innovate and deliver cutting-edge wireless solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop high-efficiency DC and/or AC power conversion and ground circuitry for next-generation wireless communication products
  • Optimize product-level power efficiency and thermal performance
  • Implement surge, over-voltage, and under-voltage protection schemes to ensure robust system behavior under abnormal conditions
  • Design startup and shutdown sequencing to protect sensitive components
  • Schematic capture and PCB layout for power and ground systems supporting a range of input power configurations
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, including systems, digital, RF, and mechanical engineering, to realize complete product designs
  • Lead design reviews, verification specifications, and performance testing with cross-functional stakeholders
  • Interface with suppliers to transition designs into volume manufacturing while optimizing cost, reliability, and power integrity
  • Perform compliance and regulatory testing for AC/DC power systems, including surge, electrical transient, ESD, and conducted/radiated emissions
  • Analyze and troubleshoot power delivery issues; drive root cause analysis and continuous improvement efforts
  • Evaluate emerging power technologies for inclusion in future designs

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; Master's degree preferred
  • 5+ years of experience designing AC/DC and/or DC/DC power supply systems, preferably in telecom, networking, or high-reliability products
  • Familiarity with power architectures that support DC input (e.g., 48V telecom systems), AC mains input (e.g., 110/220V), or hybrid input designs
  • Experience with power conversion topologies such as buck, boost, flyback, and PFC (Power Factor Correction)
  • Knowledge of startup/shutdown sequencing for power distribution to sensitive components (e.g., GaN power amplifier transistors, FPGAs, ASICs)
  • Understanding of surge, over-voltage, and under-voltage protection design principles
  • Proficient with power lab tools and techniques (oscilloscopes, electronic loads, thermal cameras, power analyzers, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of telecom safety and EMC compliance standards (e.g., IEC, EN, GR-1089, GR-3108)
  • Experience with power simulation tools (e.g., LTspice, PLECS, SIMetrix) and thermal modeling tools
  • Skilled in schematic capture and PCB layout using OrCAD
  • Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams; excellent documentation and communication skills
