POSITION SUMMARY

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is excited to welcome a Maintenance & Operations Supervisor to our Park Operations team! This position will oversee all tree work, tree management and undeveloped Park and Recreation properties throughout Mecklenburg County and will work closely with vendors and contractors to ensure our park and recreation facilities remain premier venues for our community to enjoy. This lead position will also work closely with other Maintenance Supervisors within the department and with our Asset and Facility Management Department on special projects. The successful candidate will have project management experience and have extensive knowledge of the tree work trade. In addition, the selected candidate must currently possess or be in the process of obtaining a Certified Arborist credential. This position will work daytime hours during the week and weekends only as needed based on business demands.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 6 years of tree management experience

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Determine schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, quantity of equipment, and skill of personnel
  • Inspect, test, and measure completed work, using devices such as hand tools or gauges to verify conformance to standards or repair requirements
  • Conduct or arrange for worker training in safety, repair, or maintenance techniques, operational procedures, or equipment use
  • Develop, implement, or evaluate maintenance policies and procedures
  • Examine objects, systems, or facilities and analyzes information to determine needed installations, services, or repairs
  • Monitor tool and part inventories and the condition and maintenance of shops to ensure adequate working conditions
  • Perform skilled operation, repair or maintenance of heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, dump trucks, etc., light equipment such as hand or power tools, hydraulic presses or shears, or welding equipment
  • Participate in budget preparation and administration, coordinating purchasing and documentation and monitoring departmental expenditures
  • Interpret specifications, blueprints, or job orders to construct templates and lays out reference points for workers
  • Review, evaluate, accept, and coordinate completion of work bids from contractors
  • Compile operational or personnel records, such as time and production records, inventory data, repair or maintenance statistics, or test results; and monitor employees' work levels and review work performance
  • Develop or implement electronic maintenance programs or computer information management systems
  • Meet with vendors or suppliers to discuss products used in repair work, computes estimates and actual costs of materials, labor, or outside contractors
  • Investigate accidents or injuries and prepares reports of findings
  • Requisitions materials and supplies, such as tools, equipment, or replacement parts

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of specialized maintenance experience; including two (2) years of lead experience

Education: Associate's degree or a vocational degree in related field.

Licenses/Certifications: Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License and County Driving Privileges; Depending on the area of assignment, may require a Class A or B CDL with one or more of the following endorsements, H(Hazardous Materials), N(Tank Vehicle), P (Passenger Transport), S (School Bus/Passenger Transport), T (Double/Triples), or X (Tanker and hazardous Materials); One or more of the following licensures related to job; NC Electrical, NC Plumbing, NC Locksmithing, CPSI Playgrounds, Certified Arborist, HVAC, CPO, Pesticide and/or licensure in an applicable skilled trade.

Computer Skills: Proficient in various computer applications including POLARIS, equipment maintenance software, and work order tracking system; Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite

  • Light and possibly heavy equipment used in maintenance, grounds keeping, and construction
