Bridge Construction Mechanic

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This class involves the performance of

skilled and semi-skilled construction and maintenance tasks related to construction and repair of

bridges and approaches which may include carpentry, masonry, iron working, steel fabricating,

operation of construction equipment such as excavators, front end loaders, backhoes, trucks and

cranes as required. Incumbents are also required to perform work above and below ground level

often in adverse weather conditions. Does related work as required.<p>

FULL PERFORMANCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL

CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of road and bridge construction and maintenance

practices; Working knowledge of the various tools and equipment used in bridge construction;

Working knowledge of bridge and road construction safety policies and procedures; Ability to

follow written and oral instructions; Ability to work skillfully with ropes and rigging equipment;

Ability to work above ground, on scaffolding or suspended from underneath a bridge; Skill in the

use of common hand tools; Ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor; Willingness to

work out-of-doors under adverse weather conditions; Physical condition commensurate with the

demands of the position.<p>

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

<li>A. Three years of experience in bridge construction, reconstruction, rehabilitation or maintenance,

one year of which shall have been in the Delaware County Public Works Department, OR

<li>B. Two years of experience in the operation of heavy equipment, welding, concrete construction

or related field, AND one year experience in bridge construction, reconstruction, rehabilitation or

maintenance in the Delaware County Public Works Department.<p>

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Valid Class B CDL Drivers License with Air Brakes or higher

level license at time of appointment and maintained during employment.
