About this role Responsible for performing a variety of routine maintenance tasks including general mechanical, electrical, AC, plumbing and carpentry repairs. Maintains and repairs physical structure of buildings and maintains the grounds of the College. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment consistent with equipment recommendations. Assists with set up of campus events and internal building and office relocations to include moving furniture and equipment. Ability to work a fluctuating schedule and rotating weekends. What a day of a Maintenance Mechanic I looks like: Maintains and repairs physical structure of building and maintain grounds of campus or college. Keeps department and campus facilities in clean, litter-free, and orderly condition. Hauls collected debris to onsite refuse collection location. Patches walls and installs fire extinguishers as required. Repairs and maintains both door and window hardware to insure proper operation and legal compliance of door and window hardware. Assists in repairing and maintaining machinery and mechanical equipment for campus or college. Inspects equipment and machinery for safe operation. Performs regularly scheduled maintenance on equipment and machinery. Reports any observed problems to supervisor. Assists electrician to install and repair electrical wiring, fixture, and equipment. Replaces defective or obsolete electric light bulbs, fuses, lamps, and fixtures. Maintains electrical systems and determines malfunctions, repairs, and operates existing electrical appliance and equipment. Performs minor plumbing and electrical repairs on heating, air conditioning and other mechanical systems as required. Changes filter in air conditioners. Cleans clogged drains and toilets and assists in performing other plumbing repairs. Routinely operates light equipment, vehicles and various attachments including dump truck, bucket trucks, moving vans and other related equipment. Moves and assists in the moving of furniture and equipment throughout campus, and repairs faulty or damaged equipment as needed. Maintains and performs in a safe workplace. Follows established safety practices. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
