Position Summary:
Under the supervision of Wastewater Manager, responsible for the shift operation of wastewater treatment plant to comply with USEPA/DEQ discharge permit. Operate, repair and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment and cross train for water operations. Position will require off site travel for water and waste water contractual work.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Set up lab and calibrate all analytic equipment for sampling ammonia's, BOD's PH and DO's.
Record all flows and reading per EPA reporting requirements.
Perform daily lab analytic of required samples per EPA permit requirements.
Perform biweekly lab analytic of required samples per EPA permit requirements.
Set up reactor analytic for daily operation.
Conduct plant walk through noting any areas of concern.
Perform influent 5 day BOD's.
Collect and prepare samples for sampling per EPA permit regulations.
Check out and calibrate all flow proportional equipment such as screen building, effluent pumps and filter building.
Perform analytic for ultra violet disinfection per percentage and quantity removed.
Set up and calibrate 24-hour samplers and ferric chloride injection pumps.
Pull pumps at lift stations inspect and repair as required.
Perform general and preventive maintenance at wastewater and water plant and lift stations including housekeeping.
Clean all lab equipment and glassware upon completion of daily tests.
Perform yard work and snow removal at wastewater plant and lift stations.
Perform preventive maintenance duties including cleaning, greasing, oiling of pumps, motors and blowers.
Assist with major on water and waste water plants
Perform all wastewater readings at lift station(s) per EPA permit requirements as well as operating the EPA required duties for the water plant in needed production including weekends and holidays.
Take required classes offered by Indian Health, USEPA, DEQ, and Michigan Rural Water Association.
Trouble shoots and adjusts process to deal with changing parameters of raw sewage.
Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.
Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED.
Three (3) years experience in wastewater/water field or directly related experience in plumbing or mechanical plant operations.
Must be willing to take classes in microbiology, advanced math and beginning algebra courses.
Must have an aptitude for operating and maintaining water treatment and waste water treatment mechanical equipment and be skilled in the operation, repair and maintenance of mechanical, lab equipment and electrical equipment.
Must possess good communication and diagnostic skills.
Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.
License, Certification, or Special Requirements:
Must have a Class D Wastewater Treatment Certification from EGLE.
Must be able to obtain a Class C Wastewater Treatment Certification from EGLE within four (4) EGLE test cycles from date of hire.
Must have a valid Michigan Driver's License and must be able to obtain and maintain a Tribal Driver's License and qualify for coverage by SCIT auto liability insurance carrier.
Native American preference shall apply to all positions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
Extensive knowledge on all types of wastewater treatment.
Knowledge of pumps, blowers, motors and specific mechanical equipment.
Knowledge of piping and fluid hydraulics as well as routine and preventive maintenance.
Knowledge of water and waste water, construction, and operations.
Knowledge of the principles and methods of water treatment facilities.
Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs in a Windows environment.
Skill in using heavy equipment and hand and power tools.
Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.

Ability to use chlorine test kit, snake machine, and voltage meter.
Ability to anticipate, recognize and evaluate hazardous conditions, as well as develop hazard and safety control methods.

Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time.
Ability to operate of motorized equipment including snow plows and lawn movers.

Required to stand and walk for extended periods of time and reach with arms and hands.
