North American Lighting, Inc. seeks a Design Engineer II in Farmington Hills, MI. Duties: Plans, performs, and manages the design, development, and transfer to manufacturing of new programs which may include lamps that must meet the requirements of more than one market. Communicates with product launch team members serving as technical liaison on all assigned projects. Establishes and maintains DFMEA's, DVP's and design micro-schedules as required per company policies and procedures. Ensures that product launch team meets design and development timing schedule established by the customer and the NAL launch team. Gathers all of the data required to create drawings that meet manufacturing requirements. Reviews all product drawings with designers and product launch team to ensure that all processes and tolerances are correct and achievable, manufacturing can process and build production design, and all customer requirements can still be met, including GD&T and SPC. Reviews drawings prior to going into checking department to ensure that drawings are complete and design intent is clearly represented. Oversees change management for the project, both customer and internal (NAL) driven via ECR's, or other customer related change notices. Ensures that all changes to customer and NAL drawings are complete and recorded by the designer, and that document control has a copy of all drawings and accompanying paperwork prior to sending the package out to the customer. Oversees the release of CAD model and drawings to the customer system, and ensures that the data release is achieved in an accurate and timely manner. Leads and/or participates in Design Review meetings for assigned projects --- scheduled as needed. Follows NAL Design Standards and incorporates lessons learned on all products developed, including discussions with peers to anticipate problems. Works with the Engineering Analysis group to ensure that all aspects of design development have been reviewed and approved to meet all customer, company, and legal requirements. Ensures that design validation testing is performed, and that all changes resulting from any test failures are completed. Establishes effective communications with customers on all assigned projects. Performs value analysis/value engineering throughout product development to save unnecessary costs, and uses NAL standard parts and localized parts when possible. Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field, and five years of progressively responsible, post-baccalaureate work experience in job offered, or in a automotive engineering, or mechanical engineering, related occupation. $117,853 per year.
